Los Angeles , CA - Austin Brown , known affectionately as “ Auggie ” by his family and friends, is putting the finishing touches on his debut album, scheduled to release in late summer 2005 by Midas Records (ADA/WEA). Austin has written or co-written all the tracks and provided accompaniment on piano, bass and drums. Midas Records' CEO Ron Clapper is the executive producer of Austin's album, which is currently untitled and being recorded in Midas Records' state-of-the-art studio in the San Fernando Valley .
Adding to the anticipation for Austin 's recording debut is the fact that red-hot producers Tim Kelly and Bob Robinson (Destiny's Child, Sisqo, Babyface, Boyz II Men) have recently joined Austin and Nast in the studio to add their own golden touch.
Austin comes from a dynasty of musical hit-makers. He is the son of Rebbie Jackson (“Centipede”) and is the nephew of Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson and The Jackson 5. Austin Brown, Midas Records' debut recording artist answers a few questions for his fans
OK, let's start with the basics:
Q: Performing Name :
A : AUGGIE
Q: Is Auggie your real name, if not what's the story behind it?
A: My grandparents nicknamed me Auggie when I was very young, and the family made sure it stuck!
Q: Birth Name?
A: Austin Brown
Q: Date of Birth?
A: November 22, 1985
Q: Born Where?
A: West Lake- Los Angeles
Q: What city do you live in?
A : Las Vegas
Q: They are calling you the heir apparent to the King of Pop do you think you can fill those shoes?
A: I don't know if I'd say that I will or could fill the shoes, but I'd sure love to. I think it would be great to have many people from all over the world hearing my music and enjoying my album.
Q: We know that your Mom is Rebbie Jackson, and you are also the nephew of The Jackson 5, Michael and Janet… being from such an incredible music family, what one person do you think influenced your music career the most?
A: I couldn't say I was influenced by one specific person, my whole family influenced me….and of course the talented Prince has also inspired me.
Q: Your Mom Rebbie had her own top hit with "Centipede," but being your Mom, what is the best advice she ever gave you about a career in the music business?
A : She always tells me to stay close to family and to remember to stay grounded and humble.
Q: How old were you realized you wanted to follow in your family's famous footsteps? When did you start singing and writing songs?
A : I was 4 years old backstage at Michael's BAD Tour when I first realized how I loved music, then I was able to go on stage during Michael's History Tour when I realized performing was what I wanted to do. A few years later I started singing and writing songs.
Q: How did you come to the attention of Midas Records and what are the plans for your debut album?
A : I believe Midas Records heard my name through the grapevine. They gave me a call to come and perform for Ron Clapper, the president then it all took off from there. As for my debut album I just want to make the best complete album that I can make. Something for everyone to enjoy the whole way through.
Q: What is the name of your album? and tells us about the music you will include. Are you writing all the songs? Are you helping to produce it also?
A : The title is Slick & Polished, and it's a little bit of everything hip hop, R&B, rap, dance and soul. I wrote all the music, played a majority of the instruments (drums, bass, piano etc.), and co-produced it with Brandon Howard, (Ginuwine and Missy Elliot) son of R&B vocalist Micky Howard.
Q: Angel, the first artist to come out on Midas Records is off to a fast start... what is she like and will she sing on your album at all? Will there be any big-name guest artists or songwriters?
A: Angel is great, she's a really sweet girl that is very down to earth. As far as her singing on my album we really hadn't thought about it, but Brandon and I did submit some music for Angel's album. I always work with my friends around me therefore the artist/songwriters that will appear on the album are all close friends such as The Underdogs, (Ruben Studdard, Tyrese, Babyface and Enrique Iglesias) Rodney Jerkins, Tim & Bob, and Sterlin Davis.
Q: Any chance that you could kick-off your touring plans by opening for Michael or Janet? Or do you want to make it totally on your own?
A: I probably could but I wouldn't want to, I don't want to ride the coattail of my family. I feel that I should have to work hard for things just like everyone else.
Q: What do you do for fun in your free time and what are your other hobbies?
A: When I have free time I like to go to the movies by myself. I do like hanging with my friends, but movies are usually done alone. Then of course I like writing music, and playing sports such as football and basketball.
Q: Do you have any brothers or sisters? Are they also into music? What about pets?
A: Yes I have 2 sisters named Yashi and Stacy, and they are both very much into music. Both my sisters are very talented. As for pets I don't have any right now but I'm hoping to get a chow soon.
Q: Who are you listening to now? Besides your family, who are your biggest musical influences?
A: Right now…..Prince's Musicology. Kayne West, Marvin Gay, Stevie Wonder and Outkast are my other top picks. Other than my family for influences….Prince and The Beatles are indeed the greatest musicians..
Q: What kinds of film genres do you like, and along with your favorite actor/actress star? Do you have a crush on any famous actresses or female singers?
A: I love Comedies, 3 Stooges have been my all time favorite for years. If I had to choose one of my favorite actors and actresses I'd have to say Johnny Depp and Lucy Lu, but as for crushes I'd say musician Fefe Dobson and Rachael Bilson from The O.C.
Q: What is your favorite type of food? Do you like to dine out or eat at home?
A: I'm on Jerry's Subway diet. I primarily eat Subway's turkey sandwiches! So I usually do eat out, I wouldn't really call it dining.
Q: What are the main inspirations behind most of your songs? Any reoccurring themes in your songs?
A: I try and take my personal experiences and put them into words. Once I express these experiences in words I usually elaborate or push my imagination to create something more interesting, more romantic or more like a movie.
Q: How would you describe your music to the Jackson fans?
A: I would consider it an updated version of the Jackson family music. I'm a product of my environment, and I have been raised around my family's type of music therefore my album will seem similar but I've added my own special "Auggie" touch.
Q: Do you have high expectations for your debut album? Are you expecting worldwide fame and platinum sales out of the box? Or would you be happy if your first album is well received and gets your foot in the door to kick-off your career.
A: I not expecting worldwide fame or platinum sales, I would be happy if the world just listens to what I have to say in my lyrics. It's so exciting that I can write something personal and then have the world to communicate it to.
Q: Do you prefer to be in the studio or do you want to be out performing live?
A: I love both being in the studio and performing. It goes in spurts, I really love to create the song and write the lyrics. Then at the same time I love to be able to perform the songs that I've created to my fans.
Q: Ok, here what the girls out there want to know… are you dating anyone special or are you single and available? Would you like to get married, or do you plan to enjoy being a bachelor for most of your career?
A: Yes I'm single right now. I would like to stay single, but if I met the right girl I wouldn't be closed to the idea of marriage.
Q: How can the fans contact you? Do you have your own website yet?
A: Actually, we are in the process of developing my website. As for right now you can go to www.midasrecords.net or www.luckmedia.com .
Q: Any final words you'd like to add?
A: Thank you to all my fans and thank you Jackson fans for excepting me with open arms.

Jackson family musical prodigy joins pop
ANGEL
sensation on Midas roster, and gets the golden touch
as gifted vocalist, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer prepares his
Midas Records debut, Slick & Polished
Los Angeles Midas Records has signed R&B/pop artist Austin Brown, label president and CEO Ron Clapper announced today. The gifted vocalist, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer is the L.A.-based indies second signing, following pop sensation ANGEL to its roster.
Although the U.S. will be on a first-name basis with Auggie (a.k.a. Austin Brown) when Midas Records releases his debut, Slick & Polished, in summer of 2005, the barely-18-year-old phenom is heir apparent to the Jackson throne, as nephew of Michael, Janet, and The Jackson 5. Austin Brown is the son of their sister, Billboard chart-topping Rebbie Jackson ("Centipede").
Clapper states, "I couldnt be more pleased about bringing Austin Brown to the label. His integrity as a songwriter, purity as a vocalist and sincerity as a performer are qualities that are in perfect alignment with Midas Records artistic vision. The fact that hes a Jackson prodigy is a nice bonus. But the fact that Austin is so completely gifted as an artist in his own right is what really sealed the deal. With his high moral character and squeaky clean lyrics, Austin is an excellent addition to the roster, and will continue the family-friendly precedent that Angel and Midas Records are establishing."
Austin says, "Midas and I are coming up together. Its such an intense ground-level approach for the project. I love the staff, and theyre driven just like me. We have the same goals."
For Austin, being of pop royalty is a responsibility, rather than a privilege; he has a lot to live up to and knows it. He had received offers from several major labels, but signed with Midas because he wanted a one-on-one relationship with the top brass.
And he will have that with Ron Clapper and the Midas team who have already captured the attention of the entertainment industry during the set-up of Angels solo debut, Believe in Angels...Believe in Me, set for release later this summer. The first single, "Just The Way I Am," was produced by The Wizardz of Oz (Nick Lachey, Ricky Martin), and is set to impact radio in June. Angel is currently performing at schools across the U.S. on the Midas Records Presents: The VH1 Save The Music Tour Featuring ANGEL."
In signing with Midas, Austin continues, "I feel my music will be heard and presented correctly. As a debuting artist, I am going to have more pressure on me than other new artists, just because of my family background." Well-spoken and industry savvy beyond his years, Austin continues, "The style that we are creating is really off-the-wall for my generation by taking the old school feel, updating it to today, and reminding people that its OK to be musical, its OK to play instruments, its OK to love melodies, do harmonies, and dance.
Austin has been writing and producing some tracks with childhood friend Brandon Howard (son of R&B vocalist Micky Howard), who has worked with Missy Elliott and Ginuwine. Working closely, Midas and Austin are considering such producers as The Underdogs, Ruben Studdard, Tyrese, Babyface, Enrique Iglesias, and Rodney Jerkins.
Other elements that will give Slick & Polish its gleam is Austins instrumentation guitar, piano, drums, bass, and percussion, making him one very busy artist in the studio.
