BEEF, the film that takes a definitive look into the deep and harsh world of high profile rap music "beefs," will have its world premiere at the 7TH Annual Urbanworld Film Festival in New York City, September 17-21. The film will be screened at the Loews 34th street Theatre, 312 West 34th Street (between 8th and 9th Avenue) on Thursday, September 18th, 4:30 PM and at the Magic Johnson Theatre Harlem, 2309 Frederick Douglas Blvd. (at 125th Street) on Saturday, September 20th, 5:15 PM.


BEEF is the third in a 12 program series by QD3 Entertainment and Image Entertainment (which will release BEEF on DVD and videocassette on September 30th) following the Tupac Shakur biopic Thug Angel and The Freshest Kids, on the history of breakdancing. This latest gripping documentary, executive produced by Quincy D. (QD3) Jones III, directed by Peter Spirer (Rhyme and Reason, Thug Angel, Modern Warriors) and produced by Casey Suchan (Thug Angel, The Freshest Kids) explores the simmering street energy of Hip Hop as it plays out on was and spills over from the studio into the neighborhoods of urban America. Rappers talk frankly about street life, how they got into the game, their favorite battles and current "beefs" in exclusive interviews, rare archival footage and never-before-seen performances featuring 50 Cent, DMX, Ja Rule, Mobb Deep, Dr. Dre, Common, Cypress Hill, Snoop Dogg, Tupac, MC Shan, Busy Bee, KRS-ONE, Kool Moe Dee and others.


The film chronicles early MC battles including KRS ONE vs. MC Shan, breaks down the break-up of NWA, follows the rivalry between the East Coast and the West Coast that led to the murders of Tupac Shakur and The Notorious B.I.G., reveals underground disputes between rap crews and uncovers the dark realities behind today’s beef between multi-platinum selling artists Ja Rule and 50 Cent.

WHO: Record/film producer Quincy D. Jones III (QD3), whose sister was engaged to rap star Tupac when he was gunned down on September 7, 1996 in Las Vegas. The rapper eventually died on Saturday, September 13. Jones worked on several music projects with Tupac and he is part of a new DVD called BEEF (release date September 30TH via Image Entertainment), the definitive look in the deep and harsh world of high profile "beefs" among such artists as 50 Cent, Jay-Z, Ja Rule and Nas.

Jones’ motivation for his film BEEF is to explore the reasons for these situations that can lead to death & destruction and how to keep them from escalating in the future. During the production of his previous film, Thug Angel, which dealt with the life & death of Tupac, Jones discovered the numerous "beefs" that exist in the rap music world which motivated him to create BEEF.

Jones is available for interviews to discuss the impact that Tupac has had on Rap music and current state of Rap "beefs."

BEEF, the much anticipated film that deals with the urban war of words will have a special Los Angeles screening, Thursday, September 4th, 9 PM, at Club DIY (Do It Yourself) at The Derby nightclub in Hollywood. The project takes a definitive look at the deep and harsh world of high profile "beefs" among such rap artists as Jay-Z, Nas, 50 Cent, Ja Rule, DMX and others.

The screening will be followed by a Q&A with BEEF executive producer Quincy D. Jones III (QD3) and director Peter Spirer. BEEF will be released on DVD September 30th via Image Entertainment.

"The idea and motivation for making Beef came from being close with Tupac," says Jones. "We did a lot of music together, and when we lost him, I was impacted heavily. That loss inspired me to analyze other beefs in hip hop to show the very real effect these beefs have on the lives of the artists as well as their families."

The DIY Convention teaches musicians, filmmakers, authors and entrepreneurs to create, promote, protect and distribute independent film, music and books. The Derby is located at 4500 Los Feliz Blvd (at Hillhurst) in Hollywood.
