Long velvet skirts rustle through the castle courtyards, peasants and knights, jesters and kings, saunter side by side down the cobblestone streets. The year is 2004 - the place - a castle in Germany - the reason - a performance of Blackmore's Night . Captured on DVD for their fans worldwide: Castles & Dreams.

Ritchie Blackmore and Candice Night and their band of Minstrels present a fascinating combination of soft rock music and European folk melodies often fusing  instruments of the Renaissance era with those of the modern day. Ritchie has coined the term for this newly created category of music "Renaissance Rock". Much of their inspiration is their love for nature - and the pageantry and romance of the beautiful music of the Renaissance time .

Blackmore's Night and their 8 piece band weaves the mystical music of another time into their own sound with acoustic and electric guitars, strings, eclectic instruments like hurdy-gurdy and bagpipe entwined with Candice Night's ethereal voice.

Castles & Dreams is an exciting double dvd set - taking the viewer to a beautifully filmed concert in a German castle. Disc 2 has lots of goodies for your viewing pleasure: numerous television performances, video clips, interviews, personal home video movies and much more.

Night says, “I think the bond between band and audience grows with each tour. The fans in the places we've frequented more often love to get involved. Everyone's on their feet and singing, hundreds of people dress in garb at the shows wherever we are around the world, the unity is so beautiful. The DVD captures this wonderfully."

“I think when you are singing in a castle courtyard,” she adds, “cobblestones beneath your feet, the ramparts around you, the moon is rising overhead, and a few thousand people are dressed as you are, singing the same song, there is such a positive energy there, its unparalleled. It is the true essence of harmony.”

Blackmore thoroughly enjoys the newfound freedom he's found in Blackmore's Night. “We have no boundaries,” he says. “We can play whatever we want to, whenever we want, whether it's Folk, Rock, Pop or Renaissance music. It's a liberating feeling to not be stuck in a box or to have a neat little label stuck on your style of music." Blackmore plays a myriad of ancient string instruments on stage, including several songs where he straps on his signature Fender Strat for a very entertaining blast from the past.

Not only is Ritchie Blackmore one of the most technically accomplished guitarists of the world, he is also one of the most exceptional and uncompromising musicians. Following his extremely successful years with Deep Purple and Rainbow, he founded Blackmore's Night and has devoted himself single-mindedly to his greatest passion, the music of the Middle Ages. It's obvious that he has found his perfect muse in Candice Night – she of golden voice and locks as well. Since then, the infused magic of Blackmore's Night has captured the hearts and minds of fans and media around the globe. With such successful albums as Shadow of the Moon , Under A Violet Moon , Fires At Midnight , Ghost of a Rose , and Beyond The Sunset: The Romantic Collection now etched into his legacy as one of British rock's most innovative musicians, the band is proud to present their first DVD which includes their popular seasonal song "Christmas Eve".

Adding to the merriment, Blackmore's Night fans will get to enjoy the group live and in-person at the following special holiday concerts:

December 8 – New York City –  Society For Ethical Culture
December 9 – Lakewood, NJ – Strand Theater
December 10 – Collingswood, NJ – Scottish Rite Theater

Blackmore's Night is also scheduled to release their next studio CD, The Village Lanterne, in early 2006. Stay tuned.

Rising Renaissance Star
CANDICE NIGHT,
Invites People To Escape The Chaos Of Modern Life With A Mystical, Musical Journey

Legendary Guitarist Ritchie Blackmore, Candice Night and Blackmore's Night Bring You

'Castles & Dreams,' the New Double DVD Concert Set Filmed in a Medieval German Castle. Come Celebrate The Magical Music Of A Simpler Time!

Whether Candice Night is relaxing at home on Long Island with her creative and life partner of 16 years, famed rock guitarist Ritchie Blackmore, or performing as the lead vocalist and multi instrumentalist of the couple's “Renaissance Rock” ensemble Blackmore's Night, she retains her own unique personality. A charm, innocence, and great sense of humor that bring her close to the millions of adoring fans worldwide. Their music invites their dedicated fan base around the globe to escape the creeping insanities of the modern world by returning musically and spiritually to a realm where long velvet skirts rustle through castle courtyards, and peasants and knights, jesters and kings, saunter side by side down streets of cobblestone.

Since 1997, the year the first Blackmore's Night CD Shadow of the Moon was released, Candice, Blackmore and their band of minstrels have toured the world's castles, UNESCO sites and old “haunted” theaters,  and achieved several gold records and numerous music awards, creating one of popular music's greatest time travel experiences.

She is not only the front woman of the 8 piece musical ensemble, but she is the lyricist for their 5 studio albums and plays 5 different types of Renaissance woodwinds during their performances.

The Magic Within…

Candice's ethereal voice, and enchanting onstage image proved an irresistible combination to the creators of Magiquest, an exciting new theme park where visitors become participants in a live interactive video game. Candice was crowned the Princess of Magiquest and the game also features goblins, magic wands, Stonehenge—and the music of Blackmore's Night. The company's first park opened this past June in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. There are plans for more parks across the U.S., Europe and Japan. “The moral to the whole game is that the magic isn't in the wand, it's within you and you will always have it,” she says. “It's exactly what I encourage people to try to believe everyday.

The Quiet Life

Although a day in a musician's life can be exciting and afford moments you wouldn't normally experience, like being pulled out of the audience by Hugh Jackman while on Broadway and asked to sing on stage, partaking in vocal duets with charting bands or the general craziness of worldwide touring, Night's favorite moments are the quiet ones.

“As uneventful as this may sound,” she says, “being home is the perfect evening for me.” Home is a tranquil place for Night and Blackmore, who live next to a lush forest and like to experience “sky on fire” sunsets while gazing at the ocean from their backyard. When the couple is not off owl prowling in the woods, they are at the bonfire pit creating their new/old music on acoustic instruments.

“We have been able to help preserve the sanctity of wildlife and the serenity of nature,” she says. “Sadly, people don't often take the time to appreciate the very beauty that surrounds us daily. We try to be very respectful of nature. It is so inspiring to us.”

Candice Night and Blackmore's Night often perform benefits for various “No Kill” animal societies around the world. As an animal lover since childhood who is continuously inspired by their presence and sometimes feels “they are more evolved than we are,” she is also dedicated to the wildlife sanctuary in the back of her home. “We feed everything that comes through here!” she says. “We get quite an array of interesting birds and animals from the surrounding woodlands. We even take care of all the stray cats that come through. We purchased a small extension to our house for them to stay in on cold nights.” As a hobby, Night photographs the many birds that stop at her feeding stations. Her pictures have been published on various environmental sites.

The Other Realm

Night and Blackmore are very involved in the supernatural, “though we call it the very natural.” They like to go “ghost seeking” and stay in haunted places to experience the energies of the lives that have passed and perhaps left a bit of themselves behind…maybe absorbed in the walls of the castles or places they stay at. The couple also loves discovering the authentic folk melodies of the particular countries they go to while on tour. While Blackmore arranges the melodies, Night weaves these legends into her lyrics to keep the stories alive. “We try to stay connected with the old ways because we find that in these days of cyber reality, everything moves way too fast,” she says.

Female Pride

“Women should be proud of their femininity,” Candice says. “Wearing things that are soft, flowing and beautiful nurtures and expresses the natural essence of being a woman. It is a reflection of what lies within. Women have this amazing power.”

The image Night wants to convey to women of all ages, is not to follow the fashion of the day, but to find their own style and not be afraid to stand out. She never wears the same costume onstage twice in a row, preferring instead to pick up on the energy the venue is giving off. “The colors of the hall or castle must work in a harmonious contrast with what I will be wearing that evening. It's cooler not to look like anyone else, than to look like everyone,” she says.  “Women are so in tune with the earth, the moon…we are strong yet seductive, but somewhere down the line we were taught that to compete in a man's world we had to dress, act and be like men. I think that the truth is that we are more powerful being women in a man's world. To have a softness, the beauty is entrancing and captivating. What could be more powerful than that?”

The band is doing three special concerts this holiday season—at the New York Society For Ethical Culture Concert Hall (December 8), The Strand Theatre in Lakewood, New Jersey (December 9) and The Scottish Rite Theatre in Collingswood, NJ (December 10).

We invite you to experience the magic of the music of Blackmore's Night for yourselves. Fans who are not in the New York/New Jersey area can simply stay at home and enjoy the DVD Castles & Dreams , which transports the viewer to the spectacularly filmed concert with the brilliance of 5.1 surround sound. Disc Two includes special features that include numerous TV appearances, video clips, interviews and personal home video movies.
