In Addition To Boasting A Global Fan Base, The Boo-Yaa T.R.I.B.E. Has Inspired A Whole Generation Of Hip-Hop And Speed Metal Bands

A legendary presence on the hip-hop and rap scene since the late 80s, the Boo-Yaa T.R.I.B.E. has not only influenced a whole generation of rap metal bands, but also boasts a powerful global fan base via tours throughout Europe, New Zealand and Japan. German fans of the Carson, California raised Samoan heavyweights (in both girth and musical impact) were the first to hear the T.R.I.B.E.'s classic Angry Samoans when it came out in Germany in 1997 on Intercord Records.

Now, thanks to First Kut Organization, a division of Kent Entertainment, in association with Samoan Mafia Records, Angry Samoans will be available in the U.S. for the first time. Its scheduled drop date is January 31, but the album is also available for early release at www.FirstKut.com . First Kut is owned by “Godfather of Rap,” Morey Alexander, who has worked with the Boo-Yaa T.R.I.B.E. in various capacities—including as manager and producer—since 1990.

Alexander, who produced Angry Samoans in addition to the group's 1990 classic New Funky Nation , is also contemplating re-issuing another of their 90s collections, Occupation Hazardous .

“I see ‘ Angry Samoans' as a pioneering rap metal album because no one had ever done anything like it before,” says Alexander. “The Boo-Yaa T.R.I.B.E. single-handedly created the concept of speed metal meeting rap. From hard core gangsta rap to rap mixed with rock, they're truly one of a kind artists. At the time it came out, they were heroes to groups like Korn and other speed metal bands. They're special not only because they're amazing to look at and create great albums, but also because they're incredible live performers. I've toured them in Europe three times, and each time, the audience response was even more enthusiastic than the last.”

The Boo-Yaa T.R.I.B.E., originally consisting of the Devoux Brothers – Roscoe, Danny, Paul, Ted, Vincent and Donald – are sons of a Baptist Minister. Their skillz of surviving have brought them more street credibility than any other rap artists out there. They have all served prison sentences, but after one brother was shot dead, they decided to concentrate on their cutting edge music.

The Devoux Brothers – who now record and perform without Donald – once explained the meaning of their group name in an interview: “Boo-Yaa at that time was slang in the neighborhood for the sound of a shotgun, so we used the term to describe the impact of us onstage, blowing people away. T.R.I.B.E. translates to “Too Rough International Boo-Yaa Empire.”

If you're not part of the T.R.I.B.E. already, come join the empire on January 31 and find out just why they're still rockin' and rappin' Angry Samoans
