On December 17th BORDELLO And The Fold Are Presenting The Lamps ; Exitmusic ; In Waves

On Monday December 17th, Bordello is presenting The Lamps @ 8.30 ; Exitmusic @ 9.30 ; In Waves @ 10.30

EXITMUSIC - "Like a passionate wall of emotion, this male/female duo feeds their songwriting with bits of trance-like ambience (part Portishead meets Massive Attack, part Sarah Nixey meets Calico Sunset) and ethereal post-rock lendings (Blonde Redhead flirting with Viva Voce). The real treat is Alexa's breathy vocals, weaving throughout the melancholy pocket orchestras, making the whole thing come off like a forlorn yet casually epic affair. In short, if you love dramatic/cinematic noise-pop, Exitmusic will delight." - The Black And White Magazine

Lamps are (basically) a group of musicians who came together inspired by a set of familiar musical experiences and a set of similar creative desires. Between the seven of them they have collaborated in some way or another in no less than eleven different bands. With five members in Los Angeles and two in New York they have managed to defy logistical difficulties and produce a four song EP entitled “Please Come Down”.

FRANKLIN FOR SHORT - “This trio has a great sound that fuses electric guitars and drums with an acoustic guitar to create a pseudo folk/indie rock hybrid. Not only are the songs arranged with precision, but they're also extremely poppy and catchy. This is for fans of both acoustic music as well as for fans of music acts like Ben Kweller, Modest Mouse, and Frank Allison and the Odd Sox.” - Skratch Magazine

On Thursday December 20th Bordello and The Fold, are presenting Traildriver @ 8 ; Michael Hurley @ 9 ; ANS (members of Espers and Feathers) @ 9 ;

Entrance Band @ 11 ; Plus Special Guests and Special Ghosts ; DJ Zach Cowie

MICHAEL HURLEY - “The cognoscenti all agree Hurley is an international treasure - one of America's great singer-songwriters commuting to and fro along his magical path somewhere between country, folk and blues. His albums are full of weird and enchanting tales in which Hurley lovingly chronicles the plight of life's outsiders.” - Maverick Magazine

“As an antidote to all things slick [Michael Hurley] has few equals. His songs and performance, even his more obscure ramblings, have a deeper resonance in that they are rooted to the great tradition of American folk/country music.” - Irish Times

On the moonlit patio of a Courtyard Café in California, Traildriver was borne of a regular Sunday-evening singer-songwriter appreciation society. Jared Petrich and Keith Palmer uncovered a musical kinship there, and a melodic eclectic mix of country, alternative, and folk music. Traildriver conjures passionate, honest and heartfelt music that speaks to your soul, and will most likely compel you to sing along in your car if you are not tone deaf Together now for a few years, Jared (on vocals and guitars) and Keith (drums) are inspired by a myriad of music: The Beatles, Dylan, The Band, The Pogues, Tom Petty, Tom Waits, and Ryan Adams to name a few. "We bring different and overlapping backgrounds and influences with us when we write. Coming at the music from two different angles makes our collaboration unique yet we'll often reach for the same idea at the same time." (says Keith)

On Saturday December 22nd Bordello and The Fold are presenting Very Be Careful Holiday Especial ; Shesaydo ; DJ Dam Funk

VERY BE CAREFUL - “Playing traditional Colombian vallenato, a kind of sexy, sleepy-eyed cousin of cumbia that you cannot, just cannot, help dancing to as soon as it strikes your ears and hips, Very Be Careful encompasses the “real” Los Angeles in a way no other home-grown cultural phenomenon does.” - LA Weekly

“A VBC show isn't so much a performance as a communal celebration; it's very much an interactive experience, and the driving, pounding rhythms make it practically impossible not to dance. The music is as authentic as it gets, but also possesses an urban punk quality that makes it totally current and relevant. VBC is as fascinating a musical, social and cultural melting pot as you're likely to find in any club in this city.” - LA Record

On Tuesday December 11th, Bordello is presenting Eugene @ 8.30 ; The Rosewood Thieves @ 9.30 ; John Gold @ 10:30

JOHN GOLD - "Beautiful melodies enjoy sophisticated arrangements from one of the best singer-songwriters Los Angeles has to offer. Gold's album "These are Color Days" is a poetically enriched tour de force, with a storyline following the veins from the head to the heart."

THE ROSEWOOD THIEVES - “Basking in a remarkably classic, yet fresh, approach to roots rock that channels the Best Beatle and a love for Americana without venturing too deeply into rock'n'roll resurrection fantasies. The band travels the roots-rock highways with an honesty so rare in this era when Americana's a gimmick more than a reliance upon tradition.” - Aversion.com

“The Rosewood Thieves are decidedly alive and kicking, tempering wistfulness with youthful optimism and making sure to punctuate their jilted musings with a half-sneer.This is an admirable stab at honesty without histrionics and subtlety without self-importance.” - Coke Machine Glow

“The Rosewood Thieves' build upon the sincerity of John Lennon's solo work and the poetic earnestness of Bob Dylan and the Band for their own plain-spoken indie rock sound.” - MSN.com

EUGENE aka Brandon Owens, lead singer and songwriter of eugene, moved from Los Angeles to New York at the age of 18. He spent the better part of the past four years touring and recording as a bassist with the elite of the jazz and pop world, such as Lauryn Hill and Terence Blanchard. In Summer 2004 he picked up an acoustic guitar, learned to use a four-track recorder and started to write his own songs. After years of playing music but never writing his own material, Eugenes songs just started pouring out, with over 40 songs captured on four-track in only a few months time. Though the recording process was painstakingly primitive, what has come out on these recordings is refreshingly honest songs that have a tremendous range, a warm immediacy and a real pop sensibility that is very different from the other sounds currently coming out of New York. In Fall 2004, eugene began playing local venues, in both LA and NYC, to audiences of friends. An undeniable presence, his statement in show and song is both relevant and timelessly cool.

On December 12th BORDELLO And The Fold Are Presenting Marina's Daughter ; Gretchen Lieberum ; AM Pacific ; The Golden Ratio

On Wednesdy December 12th Bordello is presenting Marina's Daughter @ 8 ; Gretchen Lieberum @ 9 ; AM Pacific @ 10 ; The Golden Ratio @ 11

“Listening to Gretchen Lieberum is like listening to slowly melting chocolate…Thanks to the combination of its airy, spacious, almost underwater production and Gretchen's intimate, jazz-inflected voice, her music draws you in, comforting you a little more with each song. Gretchen Lieberum is never anything less than utterly captivating.” - Heckler Spray

“Her sound is pure sensory bliss. We get understated piano, jazzy bits and an occasional percussion moment, while her voice takes you to the realms of fantasy.” - NG Magazine

“Her sultry '70s Soul-Jazz voice fronts subdued, moody jazz that forgoes frost and frivolity in favor of straight-ahead emotion. Lieberum comes across like Carmel fronting Morcheeba.” - Rhapsody.com

Marina's Daughter was born somewhere deep in the Russian ghetto of West Hollywood California in the late days of 2006. Who knows who or what she will grow up to become, sound like, or resemble...we all wait patiently... Marina's Daughter combines the classical training and talent of Jonathan Fessenden with the distinct, addictive and sultry vocals of Kate Zenna.  The music crosses through many genres to provide a universally pleasing sound.  The playful lyrics and soothing vocal melodies are perfectly balanced with catchy yet classy instrumental beats, samples, and rhythms.  The era from which Marina's Daughter hails, is not easily determined. The music harkens back to a smoky 1930's cabaret lounge, then takes you to ambient sounds of the late 90's and then swoops you over for a bit of samba and reggae.  Fans ofMarina's Daughter love Goldfrapp, Morcheeba, Portishead, Imogen Heap, Jem, Feist, Sinead O'Connor, Depeche Mode, The Smiths, Massive Attack and Dido.

The Golden Ratio sound was once described as the love child of TV On The Radio and Massive Attack. Their sonic genetics vibrate through as an elegant mesh of dark hypnotic grooves, fuzzy psychedelics and seductive vocals. It comes as no surprise to find out that vocalist Talia Mays and bassist Maintenance actually met while collaborating with music innovator Tricky back in 2002. Talia and Maintenance were joined by guitarist Mike Hayungs and drummer E-Dub in 2003.During the summer of 2005 The Golden Ratio recorded their first album, Cesium Parlor. In this debut they discovered the centuries old balance that generates aesthetically pleasing results, balancing the opposing characteristics of rock, electronic sounds and the world of Tim Burton. The band has just released a three song EP appetizer called The Lines of Civilization (November 2007). Its complex textures and sometimes edgy pop mentality show an evolution of ideas while maintaining the beautifully dark overtones indicative of The Golden Ratio sound .The band is currently finishing a third EP as well as a full lenth album and will be playing select dates along the west coast during winter 2007 and spring 2008.

On December 13th BORDELLO, The Fold, And Metromix Are Presenting Sara Melson ; West Indian Girl ; DJ Scott Sterling

On Thursday December 13th Bordello, The Fold, and Metromix are presenting Sara Melson @ 9 ; West Indian Girl @ 10.30 ; DJ Scott Sterling

WEST INDIAN GIRL - “A perfect slice of sun-kissed California dreampop, West Indian Girl's luminous debut filters the hazy shoegazer sounds of yesteryear through a distinctly west coast sensibility. Songs like "Hollywood", "Trip" and "What Are You Afraid Of" gently flourish like the doves meets the Stone Roses by way of Laurel Canyon.” - Amazon.com

“Sweepingly sun-drenched sonic pop is one part early U2, one-part Jane's Addiction, one-part Electric Skychurch and one hundred percent Southern California. Processed guitars, cascading keys and blissful melodies contribute to the starry, ascending quality of the record, while analog synths and melancholy harmonies keep the tunes from straying too far into a world of pretty irrelevance... This is a stunningly psychedelic first effort.” - Rolling Stone

SARA MELSON - "L.A. has plenty of attractive singer-songwriters who sing perfectly delightful ballads. Sara Melson amps up her sound with a stellar backing band and an impressive batch of self-released rockers that crush you the same way Liz Phair's visceral debut and Neko Case's bone chilling Blacklisted did."

The completely renovated and colorfully redecorated venue has been appropriately renamed by famed L.A. club owner Tony Gower, celebrity designer Dana Hollister, revolutionary urban planner Elizabeth Peterson and innovative restaurateur Jim Venetos

PLEASE NOTE!

There is construction on 1st Street temporarily obstructing access to Bordello. The map above shows an alternate route for getting to the venue.

From Alameda, take 1st Street east, but turn right onto Vignes, then left onto 2nd, left on Santa Fe, go under the bridge, and take another left west onto 1st. Bordello will be on your right at the corner of Vignes and 1st.

On December 3rd BORDELLO And The Fold Are Presenting Wadsworth ; SD Choir

On Monday December 3rd, Bordello is presenting Wadsworth @ 9 ; SD Choir @ 10

SD Choir - Its easy to imagine Steve Didelot and Co. upstaging Train or John Mayer from a second stage at a summer festival. Didelots casual good-natured songs go down like that first sip of cold beer on a hot day. Didelot impresses with his fluid guitar skills and a smooth tenor that occasionally rips into a decent rasp...Hes certainly MTV ready...Bringing polished melodies and a compelling voice to the stage, Steve Didelot is a welcome addition to the fraternity of the next generation of singer/ songwriters.  - Lauren Horwitch, Music Connection Magazine ,

On December 4th BORDELLO And The Fold Are Presenting Rose Rossi ; Nick Jaina ; John Gold ; Colorforms

On Tuesday December 4th, Bordello is presenting Rose Rossi @ 8 p.m ; Nick Jaina @ 8:45  ; John Gold @ 10:15 ; Colorforms @ 11

John Gold  "Beautiful melodies enjoy sophisticated arrangements from one of the best singers / songwriters Los Angeles has to offer. Gold's album "These are Color Days" is a poetically enriched tour de force, with a storyline following the veins from the head to the heart."

Nick Jaina - "The blend of clarinets, accordion, violin, keyboards, random percussion, and guitar sounds like the anthems made for the most glorious hobo nation on earth—sort of Tom Waits playing at a kangaroo carnival, with brief interruptions for the funeral of Paul Simon and Elvis Perkins." -- Seattle Weekly

Rose Rossi is a 24 year old Los Angeles native. From an early age, her parents (both are actors) instilled the love of artistic expression in Rose and her younger sister. They insisted that both daughters study piano, although Rose dreaded lessons and described practicing as a form of torture. To get out of piano lessons she swore she would love music more if only her parents got her a guitar. Indeed, it was true. Rose had found a new best friend. Not only did she practice but she began writing songs. "Guitar became my tool for exploration and expression. I used it to 'dig deep'," she says with a smile.

When she's not moonlighting as back-up singer for acclaimed retro/pop group Bird and the Bee (Bluenote), Alex Lilly is painstakingly crafting the artful electronic pop of COLORFORMS . Frequently appearing live as a quartet, Colorforms exhibits a compositional sensibility that's as at home with Stereolab as it is with Prokofiev. Colorforms is currently in that state known to all musicians with a weary sense of creative duty as RECORD MODE. Their debut album is due for release sometime between Hanukkah and Christmas. - Orphan Records

On December 5th BORDELLO And The Fold Are Presenting The Preacher's Son ; Immigrants & Navigators

On Wednesday December 5th, Bordello is presenting The Preacher's Son @ 8.30 ; Immigrants & Navigators @ 9

"Combining the Gun Club's appealing sordidness with the swagger and charm of Gram Parsons, The Preacher's Son Princes of the Kingdom is a refreshing addition to a genre Gabriel Hart (Starvations, Fortune's Flesh) has been building in Los Angeles; and to a smaller degree, a sound the Deadly Snakes in Canada tinkered with before their demise last year. Everything is here—American music: Doc Pomus, Lightin' Hopkins, Jeffrey Lee Pierce; American literature: Carson McCullers, Faulkner and Flannery O'Connor. It's drunk, it's dirty; The Preacher's Son is about sin and redemption. It's no coincidence these happen to be some of my favorite topics…A brief highlight in an otherwise dismal sea of uninteresting music." - Ryan Leach, Razorcake

On December 6th BORDELLO And The Fold Are Presenting Owl Owl ; IO Perry

On Thursday December 6th, Bordello is presenting Owl Owl @ 8.30 ; IO Perry @ 9.30

The product of an unmarried hippy couple in Toronto, IO Perry's happiest memories involve being raised in a barn while under the care of her starving artist father.

Her alternative grade school's curriculum mainly entailed listening to Beatles records, which, although preventing a career in rocket science, did manage to keep her interest and inspire a love of music. As she grew, she supplemented her force-fed Fab Four diet with Nirvana, The Cure, Meat Puppets and the Pixies, at which point she became inspired by Kim Deal to pick up the bass. Having moved from Toronto to Montreal to New York, she settled in Los Angeles in 1996, where she has played for such bands as A&M Records' Old Hickory, Project K and The Green and Yellow TV. After years of touring Europe as hired bass player for hard-edged cult sensations Tito and Tarantula, io has now released herself into the wild and picked up the six string in search of her own style. Her debut cd, Greybay (produced by former bandmate Tito Larriva) is seductively cold and sweetly sad with liberating bursts of infatuation and bitterness. Io's second solo cd, Split Yourself in Two, embraces the intimate moodiness of Greybay, but has an added enraged-yet-poppy atmosphere that complements her meeker, doe-eyed side. Split Yourself In Two is aptly named because io has successfully bisected herself into a brace of distinct sensitive singer/songwriters who will alternately vie for your attention--ultimately blending themselves into one--creating a lush, powerful, musical entity.

On December 7th BORDELLO And The Fold Are Presenting

On Friday December 7th Bordello is presenting Johnny Boyd @ 9

He has the romanticism of the crooner. The boyish good looks of a classic, golden-era matinee idol. The true passion, heart, soul and vision of the renegade artist. But it's his highly distinctive, smooth as silk, vocal style that truly defines him. He's Johnny Boyd – and he's back. And like Frank, he does it his way.

Long-acclaimed as one of the most versatile vocal performers of today, Boyd seamlessly blends his thoroughly modern, yet retro-influenced sound of swing, jazz, pop, country, gospel and rock, bringing back the nostalgic charisma of a bygone era, while taking risks with his arrangements that truly show confidence in his talent.

On Saturday December 8th Bordello is presenting Lola Gayle-Sandgren @ 9 ; Alex and Sam @ 10 ; Heloise & The Savoir faire @ 11 ; Lovelikefire @ 12

HELOISE & THE SAVOIR FAIRE - “A great big flying disco ball swerving through a relentless shower of pink glitter and synth-lasers.” - Disorder Magazine

“An electrified collision of late-70's disco-infused dance punk and 80's synth-pop, the group is fronted by the charismatic Heloise Williams and backed by two dancers and a full band. Heloise & The Savoir Faire are currently putting the finishing touches on their Simian debut. Self-produced and engineered by Andrew Schneider at Translator Audio in Brooklyn, “Trash, Rats and Microphones” captures the energy, sexuality and humor of the live show.” - From their bio

About with indecision, a carefully placed classified ad, and the dissolution of former bands brought LoveLikeFire together in Early 2006. Founding Members Ann Yu (Vocals, Guitar) and David Farrell (Drums, Bass, Keys) were planning a move South from San Francisco to Los Angeles. Both had quit their respective jobs, put notice in on their apartments, and were ready to skip town when they duo found an appealing ad placed by Ted Parker (Guitar, Piano). After the three met, the move to L.A. was immediately canceled. The final piece of the puzzle came together when bass player Robert Kissinger was put in contact with Yu through mutual musician friends in San Francisco. The quartet meshed and got to work happily ever after.

On November 26th BORDELLO And the Fold Are Presenting I See Hawks In LA ; Cydney Robinson

On Monday November 26th, Bordello and The Fold are Presenting  I See Hawk In LA  @ 9 ; Cydney Robinson @ 10

I See Hawks In LA - "These freewheeling lords of California psych country approach their music almost as if it were a portal, an unseen threshold that, once crossed, promises a wholly unpredictable experience. The Hawks singular style always operates on an epic scale, exploring weird panoramas of hallucinatory metaphor with a sound as much traditional hillbilly as it is accelerated lysergic-rock spontaneity. Up, up and away." - Jonny Whiteside, L.A. Weekly

“Cydney Robinson is the spokeswoman for the shoeless. She finds that toothless poverty in all of us, the barefoot truth, the humanity that is all too aware, the wisdom seldom spoken out loud, and the Kentucky weeds that grow inside.” - Malibu Arts Reviews

On Wednesday November 28th, Bordello and The Fold present Leslie And The Badgers @ 8:30 ; Jonathan Wilson @ 9:30 ; Traildriver @ 10:30

“[ Jonathan Wilson's ] music blends that rainy English folk with the east coast mountain music he grew up around, and the Laurel Canyon/Southwestern country rock that was so dominant in past decades; [he] can channel bouncy pop energy as well as the hushed sounds of folk. There's more than a whole lot of promise in Jonathan Wilson.” - Treble Magazine

“Wilson offers us a gracious, unabashedly romantic invitation to trip the light fantastic. Carrying some of the holy songwriter spirit that once resided in Pete Ham and Chris Bell, Wilson's restless mind and open heart embody everything most independent rock isn't today by being inviting, full of intelligent, thoroughly musical shifts. One to put aside for when your emotions run deep and most other music feels prickly and unapproachable.” - Jambase

On November 29th BORDELLO And The Fold Are Presenting Holly Conlan ; Never At Night

On Thursday November 29th Bordello and the Fold are presenting Holly Conlan @ 8 ; Never At Night @ 10 There once lived a girl named Holly Conlan . Growing up in the backwoods town of Agoura Hills, California, her only source of sanity was sitting at her big, wooden piano, plucking at the awe-inspiring ivories beneath her boyish looking hands. As the years passed, she developed an attachment to that piano, an affinity for song writing that brought her joy, and the intense realization that this music was no longer an escape from the bleary boring days of childhood, but an unrelenting passion. Now 26 years old, Holly spends her days intent on music theory and song writing, Never At Night (Ryan Jebavy, Danny Denton, and Ivan Minsloff) cater to the ethereal desperation one may require if traveling through time without a toothbrush. Carefully pocketing sameness in an attempt to offer quietly thundered reveries, Never At Night wish to devour you with an unfamiliar musical anesthesia: one found never inside of your heart, never outside of your nightmares and never at night.

“ Cydney Robinson is the spokeswoman for the shoeless. She finds that toothless poverty in all of us, the barefoot truth, the humanity that is all too aware, the wisdom seldom spoken out loud, and the Kentucky weeds that grow inside.” - Malibu Arts Reviews

‘With pipes that could heat an old tenement in the wintry slums of New York City, Robinson sucks you into her semi-demented world with a succession of songs from the edge before whipping you into submission with two wild old-timey rockers (if such a combination can exist, it is here) which leave you reeling.” - AcousticMusic.com

The Knife Chase are a group of handsome young Los Angeles men led by the very articulate and punctual Michael A. Flores. They sound like a country band doing David Bowie covers. Mr. Flores sings and plays rhythm guitar, Adam Jurist plays lead guitar, Spencer Savage plays kit drums, and Burke Ericson plays the electric bass.

On Tuesday November 13th, Bordello is presenting Milo @ 8 ; Cathair Ensemble @ 10 ; Dorian Wood @ 11; DJ sets from Roderick Cumming of Cathair Ensemble

Dorian Wood - Wood's new self-distributed CD, Bolka, a beautiful, baroque work spawned by a failed love affair. Sleeve credits boast (or warn), "There are no loops on this album. There are no guitars." There are, however, harps and accordions, and a lovely choral arrangement of the song "Kletka ot Sniag," which was translated into Bulgarian from Wood's English-penned lyrics by the ex-boyfriend who inspired the album. (Bolka is the Bulgarian word for pain.) I read him my list of first-impression names and genres evoked by the CD -- folk, spirituals, jazz, dancehall/cabaret, torch songs, Bjˆrk, Antony Hegarty -- and he chuckles. Cathair Ensemble - Melodies that cough and choke as much as they croon...dance tunes for three-legged dancers...nervous tangos, club-footed waltzes, gallow's swing. The past pinches at our leg hair as we race towards the party at end of the world. It's going to be a blast.

On November 14th BORDELLO And The Fold Are Presenting Henry Clay People ; Correatown ; The Broken West ; The Monolators

On Wednesday November 14th Bordello is presenting Henry Clay People @ 8.30 ; Correatown @ 9.30 ; The Broken West @ 10.30 ; The Monolators @ 11.30

Correatown -“There's an inescapably seductive quality to Angela Correa's songs; despite the fact that every song she writes is downtempo and melancholy, [they are full] of mellowness r ather than sedation. Only Correa's endlessly soothing voice and the strength of her bittersweet songs allows her to avoid the pitfalls of a "downer." Angela's wispy vocals suggest a world where the seasons never change, the hours don't pass and the only causes for concern are heartache and depression - two things Correa understands well.” - Splendid Magazine

The Broken West formed in Los Angeles in the summer of 2004, a group of friends from all across the country, coming together based on their mutual love of music. Originally known as The Brokedown, the band changed their name in the fall of 2006 in response to concerns from another band out of Chicago with a similar name. Names may change, but great music still remains. So far in their young rock and roll life The Broken West have already released a critically acclaimed EP – The Dutchman's Gold – and criss-crossed the country several times, we're assuming in a beat-up van.

The once husband and wife duo of Eli (vocals/guitar) and Mary Chartkoff (drums) are now a four piece with the addition of Andrew Bollas (8 Bit) on bass and Tom Bogdon on guitar. After last year's full length offering, Our Tear's Have Wings, the group returns with 4 new songs that will be released on September 25 via digital download and 10" vinyl. Clocking in at less than 14 minutes, You Look Good On the Train is The Monolators' most mature and rowdy as ever effort, that continues to liken the quartet with Jonathan Richman's The Modern Lovers. Combining early punk rooted in 50's rock (see title track opener) with child-like narratives (see "Eagle Fighting Zebra"), the band maintains their own identity with Eli's unique yelp that's closest comparison is that of The Thermals' Hutch Harris.

"The mind-bending narrative twists and live-wire musicality on the last album by the Henry Clay People put the L.A. quartet on the must-see list for scenesters who like their pop smart, fast and fun...Arriving at an aesthetic that makes them sound like the teenage sons of Built to Spill gone off their Ritalin..."

On November 15th BORDELLO And The Fold Are PresentingOlogy ; Redcar ; United by Sound

On Thursday November 15th Bordello is presenting Ology @ 9 ; Redcar @ 10 ; United by Sound @ 11

Ology began it's long haul way back in 1995. It was created by Dino Carrillo shortly after graduating. It's come a long ways from it's early Hip-hop days, when Ology could be seen rocking show's at the Whisky A Go-Go in L.A. The project still holds some of its traditional roots of Hip-hop that can be heard in the rhythm section, its clever vocal delivery, and of course the cuts and scratches of Dj Hell Kat, the thick deep bass tones from the Upright are lead by Mr. Hakeem Holloway, the soultry vocals of Ceci Castelblanco, and last but not least the percussive element's which are lead by Mr. John Cornelis.

Redcar formed in 2005 and their lyrical yet gritty sound has taken their hometown of Los Angeles by storm ever since. Lead by musical temptress Heather Reid (lead vocals/guitar/Wurlitzer), REDCAR takes the best from indie rock's current sound and adds a flavor all its own—melodic, passionate and just hard-hitting enough to make you want to come back for more.

United by Sound -Two people can make a lot of noise. The duo, joined onstage by Bassist Ian Burney and drummer Ira Miller, met in High School and that's kind of cute but it wasn't until 2004 that they decided to start a band that would embrace the diversity of music they play today. That was in San Francisco and it's a good thing that what happens in SF doesn't stay there, because the UBS virus makes your ears look better (Warning: Might cause Motion). Defining their style is difficult . You will taste soul, electro, dub-step, Crunk, experimental Rock, Trip Hop and maybe even a hint of folk. This particular dish goes with any alcohol.

On November 16th BORDELLO And The Fold Are Presenting Telematique ; The Electones ; The Greasy Beats

On Friday November 16th Bordello is presenting Telematique @ 9 ; The Electones @ 10 ; The Greasy Beats @ 11

THE GREASY BEATS - "They got the name of the group right on this one -- because the music here is greasy and gritty -- partly deep funk, and partly older soul-styled grooves! The group are a large combo with vamping guitar, burning organ, snapping drums, and a nice brace of horns on the top -- and they're joined here by Mixmaster Wolf of Breakestra -- who sings lead vocals on 3 of the EP's 5 tracks! The overall groove is rich and full -- almost with Memphis soul touches at times, but cut down with the leanness of the modern deep funk generation." - Dusty Groove

A VIOLIN + A CELLO + LOOPS + INTERACTIVE VISUALS + FRENCH = TELEMATIQUE Telematique is Aurisha Smolarski and Somer Waters, a violin/cello duo who take their "classical players gone eclectic" styles to create an ambient yet provocative chamber duet. They construct live loops of violin, cello and add dreamy vocals, often sung in French, energy from the audience and surrounding environment to weave a tapestry of sound. They have performed for many art events and shows around LA such as "Not A Cornfield" in conjunction with their "Day of The Dead" event as well as their closing party/show.

The Electones - One of the things we hear most often after a show is: "That was great, what do you call that music?" and we're honestly still trying to figure that out. Since 2001 this band has been waxing it's special blend of funk, soul, jazz, and a whole lot more to an ever widening audience in California . It's not your average organ trio! It did, however, start that way. We played jazz gigs for over two years before we had our first rehearsal, and then things started to take a real change toward the experimental, the funky, and the danceable and away from the more standard organ trio repertoire. A show by The Electones is as energizing as it is diverse. Oh, and we rehearse nowadays, too!

On Saturday November 17th Bordello is presenting Jim Bianco @ 8.30 ; Jenny Owen Youngs @ 9.45 ; Sean Hayes @ 11

JIM BIANCO - “flawlessly layering zydeco accordions, flamenco castanets and N'Orleans-style trombone atop his own earthy guitar and old-soul vocalizing- Bianco has catapulted himself onto a level of eclectic songcraft on par with Elvis Costello and Tom Waits." - LA Weekly

JENNY OWEN YOUNGS - “Her music is gentle, yet has a dark sense of humor. And she's been described as having the voice of an angel and the mouth of a sailor... she has something special. Her unique talent demands your ears.” - Treble Magazine

SEAN HAYES - “a weird combination of Mass and a dance club. Compelling rhythms (”All Things”) and morose blues/worship/folk songs (”Fucked Me Right Up”) somehow fit together, pushing the audience to dance, bounce, cuddle and grind.” - Flock Me, Baby

On November 5TH BORDELLO and The Fold are Presenting Jon.T.Howard ; Harvey Sid Fisher ; Cydney Robinson ; Brian Kenney Fresno

On Monday November 5th, Bordello and The Fold are Presenting  Jon.T.Howard @ 8.30 ; Harvey Sid Fisher @ 9 ; Cydney Robinson @ 10 ; Brian Kenney Frsno @ 11

Cydney Robinson - ‘With pipes that could heat an old tenement in the wintry slums of New York City, Robinson sucks you into her semi-demented world with a succession of songs from the edge before whipping you into submission with two wild old-timey rockers (if such a combination can exist, it is here) which leave you reeling.” - AcousticMusic.com

“ Harvey Sid Fisher's Astrology Songs & Golf Songs seems to be largely horoscopes set to pseudo-cocktail music, sometimes dispensing with melody and intonation. It's hard to take the songs that comprise the album seriously, but then, they weren't meant to be. Lots of stiff keyboards, happy, carefree vocals, and guitar-strummed singalongs. Fisher takes a straight-ahead approach; all of the song titles that deal with astrology are signs ("Aries," "Libra," etc.), while its lyrics are often hilarious.”- All Music Guide

Armed with raisins, projected sing-along lyrics, and his giant super guitar, Kenney Fresno seeks to create a performance so dense, with a gravitational pull so great, that even light cannot escape. This black hole of entertainment is so heavy that it ultimately collapses on itself upon spewing the audience with all that is Fresno. Brian Kenney Fresno is a singer of modern folk tales, urban legends, and epics of the absurd.

Born in St. Charles, Missouri, Jon T Howard grew up the hard way. Few songwriters have lived to tell the tales that Howard serenely lays to paper and song. Romantic and masculine, bluesy-bitter and folksy-forgiving, wise and foolish; his understated and unvarnished lyrics cut to the heart of Howard's complex soul. With the release of his newest CD, ‘Time For Something New' on Mettafour Records, Howard, at a musical watershed in his life, puts it simply, ‘I'm making peace with the past.' In his uncompromisingly honest music and gravelly voice, discerning listeners will detect a psyche at war with a lifetime of train wrecks witnessed. Howard: ‘The album is a bookend of what I've lived through and been a witness to.' Jon's love of his mother despite her turbulent marriage and her struggle with his stepfather's addiction is the backbone for ‘Throw Another Penny;' one of Jon's strongest songs.

On Tuesday November 6th, Bordello is presenting Michael Fracasso @ 8 ; Owl Owl @ 8.30 ; Scrappy Hamilton @ 9.30 ; Dj sets from Roderick Cumming of Cathair Ensemble

Michael has recorded SIX ALBUMS - A POCKET FULL OF RAIN - RETROSPECTIVE - BACK TO OKLAHOMA - WORLD IN A DROP OF WATER - WHEN I LIVED IN THE WILD - LOVE AND TRUST. He has also TOURED NATIONALLY with PATTY GRIFFIN, LUCINDA WILLIAMS, and JAMES McMURTRY among others. Michael has just completed his SEVENTH ALBUM, RED DOG BLUES, with the help of producer DAVID HAMBURGER. His high lonesome tenor that has been compared to that of legendary singers and his songs have been recorded by many artists.

Scrappy Hamilton has been rocking since 1999. We toured all over the East Coast, basing ourselves in the small unrivalled art-town of Asheville, NC. We played New York City a ton, Philly, DC, Atlanta, etc..., and of course every little one horse town in North Carolina, and most in the Southeast. Two years ago we moved to Hollywood CA to show LA what they've been missing. We are having a blast out here. It is obvious we are destined for greatness.

On November 7th BORDELLO and The Fold are Presenting One Trick Pony ; The Exfriends ; Correatown ; I Make This Sound

On Wednesday November 7th Bordello and The Fold are presenting One Trick Pony @ 8.30 ; The Exfriends @ 9.30 ; Correatown @ 10.30 ; I Make This Sound @ 11.30

Correatown- "There's an inescapably seductive quality to Angela Correa's songs; despite the fact that every song she writes is downtempo and melancholy, [they are full] of mellowness rather than sedation.

The Exfriends - After graduating from The University of Notre Dame, Matt spent three years in New York City, writing and recording songs in a damp Chinatown basement. He then became reacquainted with fellow Notre Dame graduate, Joanie Mendenhall, a classical piano player who talked Matt into taking her home to California. Soon after the pair showed up in San Diego, Matt released How to Play the Songs of Matt Curreri, a collection of his Virginia-style Chinatown basement recordings, to critical acclaim nationwide. Today Matt and Joanie are still in California. They've hooked up with a stellar group of musicians who now comprise The Exfriends: Ray Suen , Tyler Ward, and Kevin Gossett.

On November 8th BORDELLO and The Fold are Presenting George Stanford ; Will Dailey ; Ben Harper afterparty with Culver City Dub collective plus special surprise guest

On Thursday November 8th Bordello is presenting George Stanford @ 8 ; Will Dailey @ 9 ; Ben Harper after party with Culver City Pub collective @ 10.30 plus special surprise guest

George Simon Stanford made his way to the front of the band through the brass section, where he played trombone in every type of band he could as a kid. Trombone proved to be a dangerous 'gateway' instrument, leading him to the bass, guitar, keyboards, and anything else that would make noise. He studied music theory at University of the Arts in his native Philadelphia for a year, where he formed the rock group Townhall. Realizing the academic lifestyle wasn't for him, he left school to set out on the road with his band, and after touring, recording, and starving for over five years, the group decided to go their separate ways in early 2006. With the demons of rock and roll calling his name louder than ever, and a new understanding of his own musical voice, George left his home and family for the bright lights of Los Angeles, to record a batch of new tunes. Within weeks of getting to the big city, he signed a recording contract with Epic Records. After a little corporate shake up in early 2007, George moved to Smash/Mercury Records, who will release his major label debut later this year.

Will Dailey's Back Flipping Forward will be the first release from the newly launched CBS Records, a label that combines traditional music marketing with direct integration of its artists' music into television programming on the CBS and CW networks. The October 2 release of Dailey's Back Flipping Forward will benefit from this undeniably powerful medium--and one that is playing an increasingly important role in breaking artists--when he performs his first single “Rise” on-camera in a special episode of CSI: NY on October 17. As an added bonus, a commercial immediately following this episode will “back announce” Dailey's performance and inform the audience that the song and album are available for purchase.

The Culver City Dub Collective , unites an all-star cast in a captivating blend of Jamaican roots reggae, Afro-Cuban rhythms and West Coast bossa beats. It's an intoxicating breeze that rattles the brain in all the right places, a simmering soundtrack to a thousand road trips and hazy summer afternoons.
