BOZO'S Big Top Television Show on video and DVD

Sometimes it pays to clown around, and when it's Larry Harmon doing the clowning, people “juuuusst keeeep laughing,” which is the advice that Harmon's BOZO The Clown character used to give during his 47 consecutive years as one of TV's longest-running international family series, BOZO'S Big Top Television Show.

Though Harmon has hung up his size 83 triple-A shoes, after training 205 well-qualified BOZO clones (Willard Scott and Johnny Mountain among them), he's in the midst of a veritable three-ring circus of family fun.  Celebrating nearly 50 years as “The World's Most Famous Clown,” BOZO was first launched in 1946 as a children's recording star, BOZO The Capitol Clown, on Capitol Records. The character comes full circle with the first new BOZO music recorded in 30 years.

Music for Little People (www.mflp.com), DreamWorks Music Publishing, and Larry Harmon Pictures (LHP) have teamed up to create BOZO & Pals – Get Down With The Clown, available October 14th, 2003.  And getting down with the clown in this fun, educational romp are esteemed pals that include a Shakespearean William Shatner in a “PriceLine.com” commercial like send-up “What is a BOZO?,” and Tony Danza with the comical “A Couple of Clowns Like Us,” co-written by Hall of Fame songwriter Paul Williams and the album's producer and DreamWorks staff writer, Mike Himelstein (Shrek, 102 Dalmatians).  Himelstein composed all of the other BOZO & Pals songs, such as cowpunk songstress Rosie Flores' “Toodleloo” duet with roots-rock musician / character actor James Intveld, and “Blues for BOZO,” performed by guitar virtuoso / vocalist Joe Bonamassa.  As BOZO loves to say, “Whoa, Nelly!”

In another wonderful twist of impeccable BOZO timing, the distinguished USC Marching Band crammed into the recording studio to pay tribute to the revered Harmon, who, 57 years ago, became the only freshman drum major in USC's history.  Under the direction of Dr. Art Bartner, the 275-member “Spirit of Troy” let it fly with “BOZO'S Big Parade.”

Other tracks on BOZO & Pals include the inspiring “Everybody Laughs in the Same Language,” the jazz-tinged “BOZO The Clown” and “Quit Clownin' Around,” while “The Ballad of BOZO” is a western clown showdown, and dance and hip-hop go Big Top with “BOZO'S Clown Dance” and “I'm Down with The Clown.”

This is MFLP's first enhanced CD, and features 3-D computer animation vignettes of BOZO and his pals, created by Genius Productions, the distributor of the digitally remastered classic series, BOZO'S Big Top Television Show, on video and DVD, at retailers nationwide.  The series includes music from Bozo & Pals – Get Down with The Clown.

Harmon pioneered the concept of franchising television shows by offering turnkey operations that resulted in Bozo shows in every major US market, as well as many countries throughout the world.  As the fame of Bozo spread across the world, children's organizations such as UNICEF sought him out as a goodwill ambassador.  Along with raising millions and millions of dollars for children's charities, Bozo helped UNICEF win the Nobel Peace Prize in 1966, prompting the Secretary General of the United Nations to call Harmon-Bozo, “truly the goodwill ambassador of the world.”  Again in 1999, Harmon was summoned to the UN in Geneva.  This time he was honored for his more than 50 years of entertaining the world.

As brave as he is funny, Harmon-Bozo engaged in zero gravity training with the Apollo astronauts and made a film of his mission.  In addition, he completed the fire fighter training program with the New York City Fire Department, starring in a documentary about fire fighting.  He also helped raise a sunken gunboat with the U.S. Navy as a deep-sea diver and made a fascinating film called “Red Diver Clown,” demonstrating the highly specialized training skills of the Navy's deep-sea diving team.  Harmon also participated in public service work in association with United States Presidents such as Kennedy and Johnson, as well as foreign dignitaries, from France's Charles De Gaulle to Israel's Golda Meier, and many more.

As Harmon continues to “juuuusst keeeep laughing!,” he dedicates himself to making the world a better place for children, so they can, too.
