FIRST KUT POSSE INVADES FT. IRWIN – First Kut rappers Canibus , Slick and their posses trekked out to the desert near Barstow, CA last weekend to Ft. Irwin to perform for military personnel that had returned from duty in Iraq. Canibus performed several cuts from his debut album Def Con Zero (First Kut/Kent Entertainment) while Slick pumped up the crowd with beats from his debut album Elements of the Game (First Kut/Kent Entertainment). Canibus is a military veteran, having spent time with the US Army's Stryker Brigade.
Also present, but not pictured, was Morey Alexander, president of Kent Entertainment AKA the “Godfather of Gangta Rap.” Alexander was involved in the careers of such Rap pioneers as NWA, Kid Frost and Mellow Man Ace.
After the performances, Ft. Irwin's Colonel Philbreck, a new rap music fan, presented Canibus and Slick with award plaques to express the Army's appreciation for their appearances. The irony of the day was that while the state of Nevada is trying to ban rap music concerts, the United States Army welcomes such appearances.
