It had been seven years since The Cults last tour, so the British hard rock bands return to the American concert stage in 2001, was a very big deal. Image Entertainment, Inc. (NASDAQ: DISK), long recognized as the market leader in music video long forms on DVD, will release this auspicious event, The Cult: Live from Los Angeles, on DVD ($19.99) and videocassette ($19.98), November 5.
Filmed October 4, 2001, at The Grand Olympic Auditorium, this career-spanning performance emanates dark intensity from its core founder and vocalist Ian Astbury, lead guitarist Billy Duffy and drummer / backing vocalist Matt Sorum. Bassist / backing vocalist Billy Morrison and rhythm guitarist Mike Dimkich round out the formidable line-up for what Astbury terms "a spiritual gathering." Manny Rodriguez directed the five camera shoot that gives viewers the best seats in the house front and center, behind the drums, over the audience its a unique perspective and an exhilarating concert experience.
Everyone has a favorite Cult song, whether its an enduring anthem such as "Love Removal Machine," the alluring "She Sells Sanctuary" or material from Beyond Good and Evil (the first album since The Cult in 1994) like "Take the Power" or "Breathe." Theyre all included on this Image release, along with other greats such as "Sweet Soul Sister," "Fire Woman," "Peace Dog," plus post-concert bonus footage, for 86 minutes of pure 5.1 Dolby Digital / 5.1 DTS / Dolby Stereo power to enhance Astburys unmistakable iconoclastic wail.
