Billy Ray Cyrus spent late last week in Washington D.C. and appeared at the national kickoff luncheon for the 2003 U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys For Tots campaign. As Cyrus has been named the National Spokesperson for this year’s campaign, he flew in from the Toronto set of his television series "Doc" to the Hilton Hotel in Alexandria, VA and performed "Some Gave All" and a medley of holiday songs in front of an impressive audience that included high-ranking general and flag officers of the military, corporate sponsors, members/supporters of the Toys For Tots organization and numerous press outlets including CNN, ABC and Fox News.

For his work already underway for the charity, Cyrus was presented an award from the president of the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation, Lieutenant General Matthew T. Cooper, USMC (Ret). Cyrus then revealed his goal to surpass the current TfTs record of providing enough toys in one season for over 6 million children. The Commandant of the U.S. Marine Corps, General Michael W. Hagee, who was part of the day’s program personally thanked Cyrus and also mentioned he’d like to arrange for him to come to Iraq to perform "Some Gave All" to the troops stationed there.

Immediately following the event, on request from the USO, Cyrus went to Walter Reed Army Hospital and visited with soldiers who have been seriously wounded in Iraq. He visited each patient individually in their rooms, to give support, pose for photos, sign autographs, listen to the soldiers’ moving stories and play a song here and there. Cyrus was glad to hear that in the previous days these heroes also had spirit-raising visits from Aerosmith and Cher.

After his activities in the D.C. area, Cyrus traveled on by bus to West Virginia to promote The Other Side, his just released gospel album on Word Records. He was then whisked back to Toronto just in time for work on "Doc," early on Monday morning.

Multi-award winning artist/actor Billy Ray Cyrus recently appeared in New York as the featured guest on Christopher Closeup. The interview and acoustic performance of the title track, “The Other Side,” were part of Billy Ray’s nationwide promotional tour to support his highly-anticipated Word Records project The Other Side, which will hit stores nationwide Oct. 28, 2003. One of the longest running public affairs programs in America, Christopher Closeup has over a 50-year history of international television programming with previous distinguished guests such as John F. BILLY RAY CYRUS SPEAKS OUT ABOUT ‘BACK TO MEMPHIS’
HIS NEW SINGLE THAT IS HITTING HOME REGARDING CURRENT
WORLD EVENTS IN A WAY HE NEVER EXPECTED
(Leads to confab with Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld)
RESPECTED COUNTRY MUSIC JOURNALIST/HISTORIAN WRITES:
‘BILLY INVESTS EVERY LINE WITH BELIEVABILITY’

Billy Ray Cyrus knew when he selected and recorded “Back To Memphis” one year ago for his upcoming Time Flies album, that the Rusty Tabor/T.W. Hale-penned track about a letter written by a soldier lost in action to his love back home, would strike a cord. But little did he know, in light of recent developments in Iraq that the song would also strike at the heart of current world events. Cyrus’ track has also won the praise of Robert K. Oermann, the well-respected country music scribe and historian, who proclaimed in Music Row magazine that, “Billy invests every line with believability.”

Explains Cyrus, “In the past three days, nine more soldiers have died. Whether or not Dan Rather, Peter Jennings or Tom Brokaw still refer to what’s going on as ‘The War’ or whether due to declining ratings the networks pull the camera crews with the soldiers to cover events back stateside, this war is not over by any means.’

Cyrus is also well known as an avid supporter of our soldiers, veterans, and causes involving the MIAs of all U.S. conflicts. Just in the last two weeks, he performed and rode with motorcycle enthusiasts from The Pentagon to the Vietnam Veterans Wall in Washington D.C. for the Rolling Thunder Memorial Day remembrance. While there he talked with Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld and General Richard Meyers, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff, and discussed veteran issues. Prior to that Cyrus participated in events at Ft. Campbell, KY for Armed Forces Week. He met with troops and their families, performed the national anthem, “Back To Memphis” and “Some Gave All,” his original song about a Vietnam veteran from Cyrus’ debut album that has sold over 14 million copies worldwide.

The long-awaited Time Flies album will be released June 10th on Sony/Madacy Records. As soon as Cyrus completes taping for “Doc,” his #1 hit series on Pax TV for the third season, he is launching a summer concert tour in support of Time Flies, and will also enter the recording studio to start production on a much-anticipated gospel album for Warner Bros./Word Records.

BILLY RAY CYRUS IS PROCLAIMED ‘HONORARY CITIZEN’ OF LAS VEGAS
AND IS PRESENTED THE ‘KEY TO THE CITY’
BY COUNCILWOMAN LYNETTE BOGGS McDONALD DUE TO FANS’ REQUEST

THEN: FAN FRENZY ERUPTS DURING CONCERT AT STRATOSPHERE

The Las Vegas-based fans of Billy Ray Cyrus got their wish granted for the singer/actor’s performance at the Stratosphere Casino Hotel & Tower. Immediately preceding the concert on September 6th, Lynette Boggs McDonald, Councilwoman for the City of Las Vegas presented Cyrus with a certificate proclaiming him "Honorary Citizen of the City of Las Vegas, Nevada." Additionally the Councilwoman handed him the Key to the City. The Las Vegas City Council was petitioned by a group of avid Billy Ray Cyrus fans requesting the honor.

After the presentation the concert at the Stratosphere was a roaring success. The packed outdoor entertainment center audience was so enthusiastic that many female fans continued to rush the stage during Cyrus’ entire show to give him flowers, notes, for autographs or to just get his attention. During Achy Breaky Heart two attractive young ladies jumped up on stage to dance and then engaged in some sexy bump & grind moves around Cyrus that compelled the stage manager to try to corral the ladies to move them offstage. But they were too slippery and managed to finish the song while Cyrus tried to keep a straight face.

Backstage after the show, "Doc" actress Ruth Marshall who portrays Donna DeWitt on the #1 PAX TV program and her husband surprised Cyrus by flying in for the show. The group spent some time on the bus, before the singer left for his final stops on the Time Flies tour, wrapping up in Salt Lake City on September 11th. Cyrus and Marshall start filming the third season of "Doc" in Toronto in mid-September.

DURING ‘TIME FLIES’ TOUR STOP IN SAN DIEGO, CA

PAX TV TAPES THE ACTION FOR BRC CONCERT SPECIAL

Billy Ray Cyrus really enjoyed the mild 70-degree weather during the fourth stop on his "Time Flies" Tour on July 5th at the San Diego County Fair, held near the beach in Del Mar, California. He was previously met by 106-degree heat during his scorching kick-off show in Bakersfield, CA.

Cyrus and his band SlyDog put on a 90-minute set for the packed San Diego grandstands. They performed favorites and also previewed selections from Time Flies, Cyrus’ new CD to be released later this year. Appropriately for the 4th of July weekend, a giant American flag was unfurled on stage for the duration of the show.

PAX TV had a multi-camera shoot in progress, taping the San Diego concert for an upcoming concert special with Billy Ray Cyrus. More details regarding the concert special will be released in the near future.

Pictured Left to Right: Larry King, the host of CNN’s "Larry King Live" and Billy Ray Cyrus who performed "Some Gave All," his Veteran’s tribute song on the program. Minutes before the show went live, Cyrus wrote "God Bless America" with a felt pen on his borrowed left-handed Fender acoustic guitar. Needless to say, Cyrus was glad to purchase the guitar shortly thereafter and plans to auction it for charity.

MORE: Billy Ray Cyrus, originally recorded "Some Gave All," his tribute song to all veterans of war, after a chance meeting with a Vietnam veteran who later died. The song was released in 1992 as the title track to Cyrus’ debut album, that also contained his mega-hit "Achy Breaky Heart" and to date the CD has sold over 14 million units worldwide. But it’s "Some Gave All," that’s the song with a life of it’s own. The song has been so embraced by veteran’s groups and others in public service over the years, that Billy Ray Cyrus and the creators of his #1-rated PAX TV series decided to shoot the "DOC" Veterans Day tribute episode based on the lyrics of "Some Gave All."

BILLY RAY CYRUS PAID TRIBUTE TO THE TROOPS AND THEIR FAMILIES WITH CONCERT AND ACTIVITIES DURING MEMORIAL WEEKEND VISIT TO MARINE CORPS AIR STATION AND BERUIT MEMORIAL

Billy Ray Cyrus, the country music superstar known for his generosity and loyalty to his fans, went beyond the call of duty this Memorial Day weekend. He performed his full concert for the troops and their families at the Marine Corps Air Station New River in Jacksonville, North Carolina, but it was his other activities there that will leave a lasting memory for all involved.

Upon being informed that many of the marines were being deployed (most likely to Kosovo) or on practice maneuvers, Cyrus asked to meet some of the marines in the field who would have to miss the concert later that night. The MPs (military police) gave him a bumpy escort 10 miles out to the boondocks to witness live tank exercises. Needless to say the soldiers were very surprised to see Cyrus out there and offered him a once-in-a-lifetime ride in a tank. He signed numerous autographs and talked at length with the young people about to put their lives on the line.

Back at the base, he met with Privates and other enlisted men all the way up the ranks -- including four Generals. Military personnel in uniform, in addition to all families of troops being sent on active duty were granted complimentary admission. During the concert he promised to sign autographs afterwards for every person who wanted one – and he did so for over two hours.

Upon departing, Cyrus expressed his wish to visit the Beirut Memorial on the outskirts of the base. At 2 a.m., approximately 60 people followed him out to what turned out to be a moving experience at the memorial. Cyrus picked up a letter that was left with a candle at the memorial and started to read it aloud. It turned out to be a letter from a mother to her son -- one of the 280 marines killed in the terrorist bombing. Cyrus read about two sentences from the letter before becoming too emotional to continue. The letter was then passed from person-to-person until the letter could be relayed in its entirety. At that moment Cyrus asked for his acoustic guitar and spontaneously performed for the gathering "Some Gave All," his tribute to all veterans of war. Cyrus then boarded his tour bus for a 47-day string of movie, concert and other obligations.

This is one Memorial Day that Billy Ray Cyrus and those involved with never forget.

Billy Ray Cyrus previewed, in a non-traditional way, some Dan Huff-produced tracks from his upcoming Sony Monument debut, backstage in Orange County, CA.

Cyrus and a sizable group crammed into his agent’s SUV to take advantage of the CD player to be among the first to hear the new material. To everyone’s surprise comedian/actor David Alan Grier (of Living Color fame) popped his head through the passenger side window to greet Cyrus and also check out the new songs.

Grier had just finished a stand-up routine next door at the Improv Comedy Club at the new Irvine Spectrum complex – and just in time to catch Cyrus’ second set.
