STATEMENT OF DEBRA OPRI: "Today, I filed a lawsuit against Larry Birkhead for Defamation, as well as other actions. After I chose to terminate our legal relationshiop, Larry Birkhead began a malicious and relentless media campaign to discredit me and to destroy my reputation. It is clear now that Mr. Birkhead's attempts to discredit me concerned what I knew and what might be exposed publicly.....and not a legal bill. With the recent release of the Rita Cosby book: ‘Blonde Ambition,' Mr. Birkhead's attacks have escalated to include false and malicious allegations that I was a source for the book. My message today to Larry Birkhead is... I have had enough. My primary concern has always been for a child named Dannielynn, which is why I will donate the proceeds from the defamation action to the ‘Center for Missing and Exploited Children.' It is my belief and my strong conviction that no child should be exploited in any manner."
DEBRA OPRI HAPPY WITH COURTS RULING TODAY THAT FUNDS WILL CONTINUE T0 BE PROTECTED UNTIL BILLING DISPUTE RESOLVED Representatives for attorney Debra Opri are happy after reviewing the Court's ruling today that funds in the amount of $591,250 will continue to protected until the billing dispute is resolved. To date, Larry Birkhead has received $458,750 out of the $1,050,000 media deal secured by Opri and for which an accounting has already been provided.
Statement by David Owen, attorney for Debra Opri: In response to media and other inquiries, David Owen, attorney for Debra Opri, stated, “We appreciate Judge Charles C. Lee's statement in court today that he would reconsider his tentative ruling denying Debra Opri's request to take her legal dispute with Mr. Birkhead to arbitration. Contrary to some media reports, the court also agreed that the money in dispute is adequately protected in a client trust fund account. The court ordered that the funds continue to remain frozen, a point Ms. Opri has never contested.
A REPRESENTATIVE FOR ATTORNEY DEBRA OPRI RESPONDS TO LARRY BIRKHEAD'S STATEMENT TO TMZ.COM This statement on behalf of Debra Opri is to clarify misleading statements made by Mr. Birkhead directly to the press (tmz.com) regarding his attorney-client relationship with Debra Opri. By making this statement, Mr. Birkhead has waived his attorney client privilege. Media reports that Ms. Opri is suing Larry Birkhead are incorrect. Pursuant to a legal retainer and media agreement signed by Mr. Birkhead in September, 2006, Mr. Birkhead was required to participate in private arbitration. He failed to do so. The arbitrator instructed Ms. Opri to secure a court order via a petition for arbitration because Mr. Birkhead was continuing to ignore all requests to resolve this matter. Mr. Birkhead's statements are not correct that he notified anyone of his unavailability. He simply refused to participate at any level. In September 2006, Mr. Birkhead signed a legal retainer and a media agreement with Ms. Opri for these purposes: 1) To fight for custody and legally prove the baby born to Anna Nicole Smith (Dannielynn) was in fact Mr. Birkhead's daughter. 2) To place Mr. Birkhead in a favorable light for a future career in the media. 3) To establish him as a celebrity so that his photos would have greater worth. 4) To find the funds to do all of the above. Ms. Opri has completed all the above including securing a media deal in March of 2007 for Mr. Birkhead worth over 1 million dollars. She also advanced thousands of dollars of her own funds to continue the fight which have also gone unpaid. Ms. Opri sought and found, instructed and directed, all legal counsel in this case both in Florida and The Bahamas, including the DNA lab that confirmed Birkhead's paternity to Dannielynn. All attorneys operated under her direction and supervision until she withdrew. Over the past two months Mr. Birkhead was asked to sit down and to discuss a fair and amicable resolution of all matters. He has refused.
DEBRA OPRI HAS ISSUED THE FOLLOWING STATEMENT IN RESPONSE TO MEDIA STORIES CONCERNING A CLOSED COURT HEARING ON MAY 21, 2007 : "Starting with a false story on the internet immediately after yesterday's hearing, numerous stories have been circulating concerning what transpired in court. David Hasselhoff and his attorney have been circulating these reports. These reports do not accurately represent what happened in the courtroom. I have asked the court to order a retraction by Mr. Hasselhoff and his attorney, and to issue sanctions for violating specific court orders. This is currently under consideration. The public should be aware that Mr. Hasselhoff and his attorney continue to intentionally leak false statements to the press and then to point their fingers in the direction of my client. Their actions are inappropriate and the content of their information to the media reads like a badly written television show. While Mr. Hasselhoff's video - which interestingly was leaked around the release date of his book and television show - speaks a thousand words of what the truth really is. He has since provided to the world nothing but jokes, excuses and ‘partying' innuendos which would make M.A.D.D. (Mothers Against Drunk Drivers) take up arms in their fight against the improper use of alcohol while Mr. Hasselhoff continues to relentlessly assassinate the character of my client, Pamela Bach Hassselhoff, with ongoing false allegations of drug usage. Her truth is clear: She is a loving mother who is trying to restore some normalcy into her daughters' lives since the divorce and despite continuing issues of alcohol of an ex-husband who she wants to see beat this ugly disease. Her efforts will not be in vain."

STATEMENT MADE TODAY BY BIRKHEAD ATTORNEY DEBRA OPRI OUTSIDE LOS ANGELES SUPERIOR COURTHOUSE Statement by Larry Birkhead's Attorney Debra Opri at press conference on Thursday, October 26th outside the Los Angeles Superior Court: "Good afternoon. "On October 11th, this office first learned of the existence of a Bahamian birth certificate bearing the name of Howard K. Stern as the father of Dannielynn. This office immediately began inquiries and investigation into the veracity of the document and learned that as part of the application process to secure such a birth certificate, affidavits had to be prepared under penalty of perjury by the parties. Based upon the results and findings of this investigation, my client Mr. Birkhead has instructed my office to secure Bahamian counsel to file an immediate action for fraud and conspiracy based upon both Anna Nicole Smith's and Howard Stern having filed fraudulent documents with the Bahamian government. This action also involves the Registrar General and it will be up to this governmental entity to pursue any criminal investigations. "I am proud to announce the law firm of Alexiou, Knowles and Co. has accepted this assignment. They are noble, ethical attorneys with a stellar reputation. The authorities executed a search warrant at the musician's sprawling home in the Santa Ynez Valley outside of Santa Barbara, Calif., said a sheriff's spokesman, who declined to give his name. The Santa Barbara County District Attorney's office was also involved in the action, he added. Jackson's spokesman, Stuart Backerman, did not answer his cell phone and did not immediately return messages early Tuesday. DEBRA OPRI AVAILABLE TO COMMENT THE OPRI OPINION: We are in a "steamy" gym listening to Kobe Bryant speak, at the University of Hawaii on Saturday, October 4, 2003, a day later than when we thought we would be in that gym listening to Kobe give his ‘press conference.’ All the media has flown to this island to hear Kobe’s words from Kobe directly. Even with the gag order in place, we are still waiting with ‘bated breath’ for Kobe to speak. And, not surprisingly, he does. "I’m terrified," he states. "Life has been pretty crazy," he mutters. "You go through something like this, and you realize how important your family is, seeing my daughter grow up....." Well, we all get the picture. It seems Kobe is intent on letting us all know how he feels about his terrifying ordeal. I don’t know. Maybe it’s my lawyer instincts surfacing. I seem to think jury selection is on everyone’s mind, including Kobe’s, and Kobe’s putting his best foot forward. The translation goes something like this: Kobe: "Hey, no matter what you hear from now on, please just know I’m a victim, too. Don’t make me do any jail time. Think about what it will do to my family." Potential jury pool: "He made a mistake. Was it big enough to send him to jail?" I think it’s time to revisit that gag order, Judge Gannett. This is fast becoming a sad commentary on Kobe Bryant and his efforts to employ the media’s assistance with his solo agenda. It’s equally sad that, when his words are reviewed against the criminal case pending against him, his youth and societal "immaturity" to the realities facing him hang in a garish light of his most recent actions. It has become very apparent that Mr. Bryant has decided to "go it alone." His attorneys may be doing their best to professionally represent him in the courtroom, but they seemingly have little or no client control at this point. And this should be of major concern to them. What if the client control problem worsens? What then? Will they be forced to withdraw as prior attorneys have in other cases? Does Robert Blake ring a bell? These are serious concerns, and unless Kobe can rise to his responsibilities as a celebrity defendant in a high profile criminal case and control his actions [and inactions] and there are many instances to cite, namely the first press conference with his wife, high profile public appearances, including an awards show, flashy outings, expensive gift purchases for his wife, his late arrival to training camp after refusing to take calls from his coach, and now his most recent comments - the media may be facing an announcement in the near future from his own attorneys. It’s very possible and very probable. Another, more disturbing concern is our in-depth view into Kobe’s own "publicly open" thoughts about how he views himself against the world. But let’s be specific for a moment. Let’s focus on his comments about his teammates’ inability to understand his situation. When he stated that his teammates "would never understand" his crisis, Kobe was telling the world, he had distanced himself from even them. Problem is, they are the only ones he’ll be hanging with for the next many months, and if he isolates himself from them, where does that leave Kobe emotionally? The answer is grim. If Kobe couldn’t get out of bed and report to training camp with his teammates after a judge ruled against him on motions that would determine the way the preliminary hearing would be played out on October 9, 2003, what, exactly can we expect as trial approaches? It is time, now, for Kobe to deal with the stress of this criminal nightmare he faces, by allowing his attorneys to do their jobs, and for Kobe to do his. That includes...adhering to the gag order.

Says Opri Excerpt from CelebrityJustice.com: In less than two weeks, the country's eyes will once again be shifted to the small town of Eagle, Colorado for Kobe Bryant's preliminary hearing in his sexual assault case. The stakes are incredibly high, especially if the defense gets its way and the alleged victim is forced to testify. It is an experience that would be unsettling to say the least. Los Angeles attorney Debra Opri says the strategy for Kobe's lawyers is harsh, but basic. She says, "Destroy her credibility. Plain and simple, they need to show credibility so she can't show her face in public again. That's the goal."
