These days, everything's coming up gold for Mikal Blue . Or maybe that should be “platinum!” The veteran producer and immergent recording artist has applied his Midas touch to some of today's most popular bands and emerging singer/songwriters and is now poised to strike out on his own with the release of his debut album Gold in March 2008.

Blue is currently enjoying across the board multi-format success as the producer and co-writer of Coco , the platinum selling (1 million-plus units) major label debut by singer-songwriter Colbie Caillat , which launched in mid-July as the #1 selling album on iTunes and debuted on The Billboard Top 200 Album chart at #5. Caillat also recorded the album in Mikal Blue's Revolver Studios in Thousand Oaks, CA.

Currently in the Top Five on Billboard's Hot 100 singles chart, Caillat's song “Bubbly” reached the Top Ten on many of the publication's biggest charts: #2 on the Pop 100, #1 on the Hot Adult Top 40, #4 on Hot Digital Songs, #3 on Hot Digital Tracks and #9 on Hot Adult Contemporary Tracks.

"Mikal is the most talented musician I have ever met,” says Colbie Caillat.  I bring him my songs and he turns them into Magic! I don't know how he does it but he's amazing! Not only does he write great songs, but he can play every instrument you can think of, and he is a brilliant producer to top it off!"

Previously, the producer had helmed the original demos that secured major label deals for now-superstar bands like Augustana, OneRepublic and Limousine, guided the engineering for Five For Fighting's hit 2006 album Two Lights, and recently completed the debut albums of two hot up and coming singer-songwriters, Jason Reeves and Brendan James. In 2005, he tracked instruments and did vocal production on tracks for the American Idol Showstoppers CD, which included future country star Carrie Underwood's dynamic version of “Independence Day.”

After working magic behind the scenes for so many other artists, Blue's debut release Gold is a triumphant realization of a lifelong dream that began at age six, when his mom gave the Newcastle, England native a record player and six Beatles 45s. The album's heartfelt, autobiographical title track was heard this past spring on the ABC drama “October Road,” and may be used again when the show resumes next month. In addition, Blue's movie star good looks have landed his poster image in the new Chipmunks live action movie coming December 14. Songs from Gold are available through iTunes and most other music download services and an EP of 5 songs is also available through Napster, Rhapsody, and others while Wal-Mart.com offers an exclusive video bundled with the digital EP.

Gold was co-produced by Curt Schneider, who produced the Five For Fighting album, and Immergent Records President John Trickett; the album features the contributions of two prominent rock guitarists, Michael Ward from The Wallflowers and Five For Fighting's Andrew Williams.

This forthcoming debut release truly represents Blue's incredible musical journey to this point—one that includes graduating from the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts; performing in the Greek Islands and Austrian Alps; leading Mikal Blue and the Trip Toys in Aspen CO; recording bands like The Offspring, Save Ferris and the Jane's Addiction offshoot Polar Bear, and being signed to A&M in the late 90s as a member of the band Opium.

Gold really sums up the story of me finally getting to release an album of my own music,” he says. “Of the hundreds of songs I've written over the years, these tracks are what I call my eleven favorites. I've been really lucky to have the opportunity to co-write with the artists I work with, and having that grounding of listening to and analyzing the Beatles classics has been very helpful both in my own songwriting and the things I do with the writers I produce.”

After so many years of producing other artists, the singer enjoyed the freedom of giving the reins to Schneider and Trickett and focusing purely on his performances in the studio on Gold .

“After five years holed up at Revolver Studios producing  many different projects, I was happy to let someone else do it for me.”

After working magic behind the scenes for so many other artists, British born Mikal Blue's emergence with Gold is a triumphant realization of a lifelong dream that began at age six, when his mom gave the Newcastle, England native a record player and six Beatles 45s. The album's heartfelt, autobiographical title track, “Gold,” was heard this past spring on the ABC drama “October Road,” and will be used again when the show resumes in January to coincide with the early 2008 release of his debut CD on Santa Monica, CA based immergent Records .

Gold really sums up the story of finally getting to release an album of my own music,” Blue says. “The whole point of the song is that when we're young we have a certain naïve idea of how our lives are going to turn out, but quite often the result is not how we hoped it would be. Of the hundreds of songs I've written over the years, these tracks are what I call my favorites. I've been really lucky to have the opportunity to co-write with the incredible artists I work with. That, combined with the foundation of listening to and analyzing the Beatles classics has been invaluable to my own songwriting and the production techniques I've employed with the artists I produce.”

Mikal Blue is currently enjoying across-the-board success as the producer and co-writer of Coco , the major label debut by Colbie Caillat, recorded at Blue's Revolver Studios . Colbie's CD which dropped in mid-July was the #1 selling album on iTunes and debuted on The Billboard Top 200 Album chart at #5. Her song “Bubbly,” currently rising on the Billboard Hot 100 and Hot Adult Top 40 Tracks charts, established her as an online sensation over the past year, with over 4.1 million plays on her myspace page.  In addition to working with Colbie Caillat, Mikal Blue has also been an integral part of the production on releases by The Offspring, Save Ferris, Five For Fighting, and recently completed the debut albums of two hot up and coming singer-songwriters, Jason Reeves and Brendan James.

The single “Gold” is available as a downloadable track from iTunes and most other digital music services. immergent will also be releasing a 5 song digital EP by September to satisfy Mikal's burgeoning fan base who've heard Gold on “October Road.” This digital strategy will help build anticipation for his debut album, available everywhere in January 2008.

Gold was co-produced by Curt Schneider, who produced the spectacular Five For Fighting album, and immergent President John Trickett. The album also features the contributions of two prominent rock guitarists, Michael Ward from The Wallflowers and Five For Fighting's Andrew Williams.

After so many years of producing other artists, Blue enjoyed the freedom of giving the reins to Schneider and Trickett and focusing purely on his performances for the recording of Gold. Mikal's long-lost passion for performing live has been reignited after recent local gigs in Southern California and he's eagerly anticipating his upcoming dates on the East Coast and in the UK.

“After five years holed up at Revolver Studios working on so many different projects,  I'm really enjoying getting out and playing for people again,” Blue says. “These are songs I truly love and it's wonderful to share them. I adore the sense of immediate feedback from the audience. In the studio, a few people respond to what you do, but the people out there are the ones who ultimately matter. There's nothing like being in front of a crowd and having folks respond so positively to songs you've written.”
