One Stage At A Time,” A New Song She Wrote With Famed
Rock Guitarist Dick Wagner, Who Produced Wensday's
Critically Acclaimed Debut ‘Torch Rock'
October has been an incredible month for Phoenix based pop singer Wensday , whose career has been in overdrive since rock legend Alice Cooper dubbed her “the other girl next door.”
“Only Women Bleed,” the debut single from her critically acclaimed debut Torch Rock , recently hit the Top 10 on FMQB's AC40 chart and has inspired her mission to speak out for victims of domestic violence. On the just issued 2008 Grammy Awards ballot, Wensday, “Only Women Bleed” and Torch Rock are listed as candidates in an incredible nine categories, including Record of the Year, Album of the Year and Best New Artist.
Luckily for the children in Providence, Rhode Island, Wensday hasn't forgotten her roots. On November 3 , the singer returns to her hometown to appear and perform at the 20th Anniversary Gala Celebration of the All Children's Theatre (ACT) , a non-profit theatre company dedicated to the enrichment, entertainment and education of all children, from ages 4-18.
ACT, whose website ( www.actinri.org ) proudly declares that it is “celebrating 20 years of changing children's lives,” is hosting the event to raise money for its scholarship programs for underserved youth. National corporate sponsors include Textron, CVS, Hasbro, Verizon and NBC10. Wensday, a founding member of ACT who was later an Associate Director at the theatre, is planning to perform two special songs for the occasion. She will sing “Children Will Listen” from Stephen Sondheim's “Into the Woods” with Cynthia Calabro, who was in ACT with Wensday as a kid and now runs the theatre's education program.
In addition, Wensday will perform a tribute song written specially for the event called “Changing Lives, One Stage at a Time.” She and the song's co-composer Dick Wagner plan to license the song to All Children's Theatre for a studio recording featuring the children who are part of the theatre. Wagner also produced Torch Rock and co-wrote “Only Women Bleed” with Alice Cooper.
The idea for the song came from Wrenn Goodrum, the founding and current artistic director of ACT who was Wensday's first mentor at the school. “She thought volunteering was the least I could do,” she says, “and found work for me as a teacher, director and playwright almost immediately. One of the best things that happened to me as a result of working with Wrenn and the kids at ACT is that I built up my own confidence again through working with these children and I remembered why I liked to perform. Eventually, I was ready to take the stage for myself, and joined a local jazz band and started singing out again.
“I truly would not be where I am today if it wasn't for ACT,” adds Wensday, “and I would never have had the opportunity if there wasn't someone like Wrenn who knew what I could do as an adult because she watched me grow as a child. Everything I had locked away was released and here I am today! I asked Dick if he would help me write “Changing Lives, One Stage At A Time” and if he wouldn't mind letting the theatre use it as our gift to them since they really did change my life…one stage at a time.”
The ACT 20th Anniversary Gala Celebration takes place at the Renaissance Providence Hotel on Saturday, November 3, 2007 from 6:30 p.m.-10:30 p.m. For more information, please call ACT at (401) 728-1222 or visit www.actinri.org .

To A Full Slate of Fall Phoenix Area Concerts
Wensday, the Phoenix based powerhouse singer-songwriter whom Alice Cooper has dubbed “The Other Girl Next Door,” likes to say that she's got bigger pipes than organs. Those pipes are keeping great superstar company these days now that her cover of Cooper's classic “Only Women Bleed,” the first single from her dynamic debut album Torch Rock,” has made the giant leap into the Top Ten on the FMQB AC40 Chart.
Wensday's current spot at #10 with a bullet (up from #15 the previous week) finds her climbing just behind the likes of James Blunt, Ingram Hill, Colbie Caillat, Maroon 5, Pink and Fergie.
“Considering that I only moved to Phoenix a year ago and released the album recently, I'm really excited to have come so far so quickly and to be getting so many spins on independent stations around the country,” she says. “Like a lot of the songs on Torch Rock , the song is very empowering to women and I'm happy that it's getting this kind of recognition on a national level.”
The singer recently announced that she will perform a special concert at Ft. Huachuca , the major military installation in Arizona that is home to the US Army Intelligence Center and School.
Wensday's highly anticipated show for the military personnel stationed there, their family, friends and the public on Friday , December 14 wraps up the singer's very busy fall schedule. Her busy slate of gigs begins with an October 12 show at Red Owl in Tempe and wraps at Joe's Grotto on December 7 . Her dates include a Teen Lifeline event at the Arizona Biltmore Resort & Spa on October 27 .
In September, Wensday performed “Only Women Bleed” at the Biltmore for hundreds at Debbie Gaby's Fifth Celebrity Catwalk for Charity Luncheon, an annual Phoenix event that raises money for three local charities. Among these charities is the Sojourner Center, which since 1977 has provided shelter and support services to thousands of individuals affected by domestic violence.
“I've been getting so many appreciative responses from women who hear me sing that song,” she says, “and it's really gratifying to know that it's having an impact on women as they heal from their pasts. Now, I'm really honored and excited about playing for all the soldiers and their families at Ft. Huachuca. I really appreciate the opportunity to bring them joy and inspire them. It's like I'm not just making music for myself but doing something that is accomplishing good in the world. “

The summer heat in Phoenix won't be cooling off anytime soon, as singer-songwriter Wensday brings her searing and sultry Torch Rock music to a slate of high profile venues in her hometown starting in October.
The vocal powerhouse that Alice Cooper dubs “The Other Girl Next Door” kicks off the month with a special TV appearance on Good Morning, San Diego October 4. She then launches her fall performance schedule at Red Owl in Tempe on October 12 and Martini Ranch in Scottsdale on October 13 . Later in the month, on October 27 , Wensday will be singing at a Teen Lifeline event at the Arizona Biltmore Resort & Spa .
In November, she returns to Joe's Grotto in Phoenix (November 9) and appears at the following evening (November 10) at the Kivel Ball at the Biltmore. She plays Joe's Grotto again on December 7.
Wensday's first single release, “Only Women Bleed,” co-written by Alice Cooper and Wensday's producer, Dick Wagner, is currently #15 on the FMQB AC40 chart. The song draws fresh and renewed attention to its enduring theme of empowering women to overcome the cycle of domestic abuse. She recently performed the song for an audience of hundreds at Debbie Gaby's Fifth Celebrity Catwalk For Charity Luncheon, an annual Phoenix event that raises money for three local charities. Among these is the Sojourner Center, which since 1977 has provided shelter and support services to thousands of individuals affected by domestic violence.
In August, the popular music industry publication Singer & Musician Magazine (formerly Singer Magazine) chose Wensday as their first Singer & Musician/iRadio featured artist. Singer & Musician Magazine says, “what really sold us is her attention to the more subtle nuances that so many singers miss once they discover they can bring the house down with power alone. In addition to the extremely sultry characteristic of her voice, she knows how to rock as well.”

QUICKLY RISING ON THE FMQB AC40 CHART WITH HER
SEARING UPDATE ON ALICE COOPER'S “ONLY WOMEN BLEED,”
THE VOCAL POWERHOUSE IS SET TO PERFORM AT
DEBBIE GABY'S FIFTH CELEBRITY CATWALK FOR CHARITY
LUNCHEON AT THE ARIZONA BILTMORE RESORT & SPA
ON SEPTEMBER 20
True to the title of her critically acclaimed debut album, Torch Rock, September is shaping up to be another exciting month in Wensday's burgeoning career. The powerhouse singer that rock icon Alice Cooper calls “the other girl next door” leaped this week into the Top 20 (from #21 to #16) on FMQB's AC40 chart with her rendition of Cooper's classic “Only Women Bleed.”
On September 20 , she will be performing the song for an audience of hundreds at Debbie Gaby's Fifth Celebrity Catwalk For Charity Luncheon, an annual Phoenix event that—in conjunction with chief sponsor Sleep America--raises money for three local charities. These include Phoenix Children's Hospital, Save The Family and the Sojourner Center, which since 1977 has provided shelter and support services to thousands of individuals affected by domestic violence.
The event, which features fashions by Dillard's Department Store, takes place at the Arizona Biltmore Resort & Spa , preceded by a VIP Meet & Greet at 10:30 a.m. and a Silent Auction at 11 a.m. There will also be a live auction, whiteboard auction and raffle. Famed Charlie's Angel Jaclyn Smith is scheduled to be a special guest.
During the luncheon, Wensday will sing “Only Women Bleed” and talk to the audience about domestic violence, a crucial issue that she is helping illuminate with the song. Dick Wagner, who co-wrote the song with Alice Cooper, is also Wensday's producer, and he and the singer wrote an empowering new verse that speaks to women today as strongly as the original version did in the 70s.
This ties in perfectly with the mission of the Sojourner Center, a tireless advocate for domestic violence victims and survivors dedicated to “overcoming the impact of domestic violence one life at a time.”
Wensday says, “Only Women Bleed' is sung from the point of view of a woman in an abused relationship; but it's really a microcosm for violence against women around the world, hence the verse we added at the end, ‘To the women of the world!' I hope this song inspires and empowers women. It is a cry that echoes through the world and speaks to the experience of women everywhere. This song and its message is my way of raising awareness to try to find a solution to stop violence against women.”
Torch Rock has received much critical acclaim since its release earlier this year, summarized perfectly by this review in All Access Magazine: “I am in love with Wensday's strong, feminine, sultry, sensuous, emotional voice.”

See What Critics Are Saying About Wensday's Torch Rock
Editors Pick
Wensday - Torch Rock
I love any women who remakes Alice Cooper's classic, "Only Women Bleed" (about overcoming the cycle of domestic violence). No wonder Cooper dubbed this edgy rock chick meets sweet chanteuse "the other girl next door." With power rock ballads and a fusion of pop, jazz and even country, Wensday is a captivating singer. More so when you see her live, because the fiery tattooed sexpot (who supplements her singing with work as a body piercer in tat shops in Miami and Atlanta) comes across as a sort of lesbian wet dream.
- Diane Anderson-Minshall, Curve Magazine
Sultry and full-throated, Wensday don't need no stinkin' D in her name to deliver this load of intriguing blues.
- Nancy Ford, Out Smart Magazine
“While Wensday's smoky mezzo-soprano would be at home in any dark cabaret, her lyricism and lovely looks separate her from other lounge lizards… With solid songs, raven locks, red lips, and long lashes, the attractive chanteuse stands out — especially since she's also adorned with numerous tattoos from her time as a professional body piercer, something that prompted Cooper to refer to her as "the other girl next door.”
- Niki D'Andrea, Phoenix New Times
“She's worked with Alice Cooper, Lou Reed, Kiss and Aerosmith. And while waiting for her lucky break, Wensday worked as a body piercer. Say it with me: Street. Cred…. Wensday blends the strong, aching voice of power balladeers like Fiona and Tori with the hard rock sensibilities of the bad boys she's worked with. This is not a garage band singer putting her first hesitant foot into the music world: Wensday was trained in jazz, blues and opera, among other things….Grab a handkerchief and hold on to something when you put Torch Rock in the stereo; you're in for a long, lovely ride.”
- OnlineRock.com
“With a bold voice that could fill an auditorium, Wensday embodies everything one could expect in her aptly named CD, Torch Rock. But what really sold us is her attention to the more subtle nuances' that so many singers miss once they discover they can bring the house down with power alone….The CD is filled with so many good moments that it's hard to pick a favorite track, so it's best to only play it when you have time to listen to the whole disc all the way through.”
- Singer & Musician
“This is an incredible CD. The woman's voice is amazing. I loved the CD from the beginning to end. Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears are no competition for this lady. She definitely put her heart and soul into this. She blends jazz and rock and roll and a bit of country and blues as well. I think she brings something new and fresh and exciting to the table and even Alice Cooper is thrilled by her. She does a kickass version of “Only Women Bleed”. Check out the disk.”
- RocknetWebzine
“Sexy, sultry, breathy and smooth are but a few terms to try to classify the vocals of Wensday. She has such a unique vocal style that to call it “torch rock” might just be fitting. If she were the girl next door, you might just to defy your mamma just to get next to her. Just hearing her sing The Rise and Fall of Love will bring chills and make you fall instantly in love with Wensday”
- Bruce Von Stiers, BVSreviews.com
"Torch Rock isn't just the title of Wensday's debut CD. It's also an apt description of the vocalist's big, ranging style….At the heart of Torch Rock is the power ballad, including the opening track, “Arizona Man,” the first song that Wagner and Wensday wrote together. Like many of the tunes on the CD, it has a message of female empowerment. “I'm a free flyin' woman/Nothing ties me down/‘Specially not no cowboy,” she sings in a strong, steady voice. Listening to this song, it's easy to imagine Wensday sharing a bill with Pat Benatar, Heart, or Martina McBride.
- Donna Kimura, JazzReview.com
“After giving the CD a couple spins I am in love with Wensday's strong, feminine, sultry, sensuous, emotional voice. When she sings a love song or sad song you feel it. Adding to the package is the well written and composed music which match the passion and emotion exhibited in Wensday's voice.”

A sultry and sweet chanteuse one minute, a bold and edgy rocker the next, singer/songwriter Wensday brings a magical multiple personality to her explosive debut album whose title forges an exciting new musical hybrid: Torch Rock . Her diverse musical backgrounds as a jazz and rock singer, combined with her blues and classical training make Wensday simply way too cool to peg. Since graduating with a drama degree from NYU she's complemented her sophisticated jazz gigs with work as a body piercer in renowned tattoo parlors in Miami and Atlanta and teacher, director, vocal coach, playwright and Associate Director at the All Children's Theatre in her hometown of Providence, RI.
The good news is, we don't have to label Wensday; we can just listen to the explosive mix of power rock ballads and uptempo pop songs on Torch Rock and let none other than rock legend Alice Cooper—a native of Phoenix, where Wensday moved to pursue her career last year—sum it up this way: “Wensday is the other girl next door.”

Well Known For His Longtime Association With Alice Cooper, The Legendary Rock Guitarist, Producer and Songwriter Finds New Fire In the Arizona Desert With 'Torch Rock' Singer/Songwriter Wensday
Like a desert based walk through a portion of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the gold and platinum filled walls of Dick Wagner's studio in Phoenix call out a wonderful invitation to an eye and ear popping journey through a magical mystery tour of 70s and early 80s rock. The Detroit area native's melodic and soaring guitar work was an integral part of the most compelling music of the era, as he performed or wrote for everyone from Aerosmith, Hall and Oates and Lou Reed to Burton Cummings, Kiss, Meat Loaf and Steve Perry.
These legendary associations are mere side gigs, however, compared to his lengthy and lucrative alliance with rocker Alice Cooper. As Cooper's lead guitarist and Music Director, Wagner helped the iconic former Vincent Furnier become a mainstream pop artist by co-writing his biggest chart hits “Only Women Bleed,” “I Never Cry,” “You And Me,” “How You Gonna See Me Now,” and, edging closer to the fringes of radio friendly pop, “Welcome To My Nightmare.” Wagner was Cooper's collaborator and right hand man on such groundbreaking albums as Welcome To My Nightmare, Goes To Hell, Lace and Whiskey, From The Inside and DaDa.
Even after Cooper's heyday, Wagner kept up the social conscience that the two tapped into with the domestic abuse themed “Only Women Bleed,” writing the song “Remember The Child” about the ills of child abuse. Originally commissioned by The San Antonio Commission on child Abuse, author/lecturer John Bradshaw discovered the song and chose it as his theme for the Emmy nominated PBS special “Homecoming.” It has since become the anthem for tens of thousands who have been scarred by child abuse, and is a catalytic tool used by many therapists in dealing with their patients.
Now, proving that truly classic songs can touch multiple generations, Wagner is bringing “Only Women Bleed” back to the forefront thanks to his new creative collaboration with Wensday , a young and sensual, multi-faceted performer whose Wagner-produced debut Torch Rock is due to be released on February 28.
Wensday, whom Cooper himself has dubbed “the other girl next door,” is the flagship artist for the new independent label Desert Dreams. Wagner, who wrote or co-wrote with Wensday all of the 13 songs on the album, is also a principal in the label with music industry veterans Alex Cyrell and Suzy Michelson; Desert Dreams grew out of Wagner and Michelson's custom songwriting and professional album production business.
“We originally brought Wensday out to Phoenix from her hometown of Providence to record a one song demo,” says Wagner. “Her background is everything from jazz to classical to rock and blues, and she mastered a tune called ‘The Bulldog Blues' in one take. She intrigued me from the start. She has great potential and is truly one of the greatest female singers I have heard in years. I had been searching for a singer I could not only produce, but collaborate with as a writer for a long time. She has an incredible breadth of talent. Our work on Torch Rock is just scratching the surface.”
Wensday had her local coming out party in the desert singing “Only Women Bleed” at Christmas Pudding, the annual event Cooper does every year for The Solid Rock Foundation, the organization he started to benefit local Christian youths.
Wensday's powerful, gospel-blues take on the song draws fresh and renewed attention to its enduring theme of empowering women to overcome the cycle of domestic abuse. It joins three other emotionally compelling songs—“The Rise And Fall Of Love,” “After You” and “Arizona Man”—on a four track EP that Desert Dreams is using as part of a unique incremental radio marketing approach to introducing Wensday's remarkable talents to music fans in North America.
Wagner, who formed his first band The Frost in the late 60s, is also active these days performing in his band Dick Wagner and The Soul's Journey Band, in addition to performing solo, band and numerous orchestra dates.
“I lived in Michigan for a long time, doing a lot of records for local bands before I moved out to Phoenix a few years ago,” says Wagner. “I started writing again with Alice and kept looking for fresh young performers to inspire me. It's rare to find an artist like Wensday, who is not only very talented but really has a chance to break ground on a whole new hybrid sound. She's affable, sweet and charming one minute, mysterious and edgy the next. All of that together creates the magic of Torch Rock.”

Wensday Is The Flagship Artist on Phoenix Based Label Desert Dreams, Which Is Launching Her With A Four Song EP To Triple A and Non-Commercial AC Stations Before Releasing ‘Torch Rock' On February 28
Gearing up for the February 28 release of Torch Rock, Wensday had her local coming out party in the desert at Christmas Pudding, the annual event Cooper does every year for The Solid Rock Foundation, the organization he started to benefit local Christian youths. Sharing a bill with Don Felder, Stephen Stills, pop metal band Tesla and American Idol finalist Ace Young among others, Wensday moved the crowd with heart searing versions of “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas” and “Only Women Bleed,” the classic pop ballad Cooper wrote with longtime collaborator and legendary guitarist Dick Wagner (Alice Cooper, Lou Reed, Kiss, Aerosmith, Hall & Oates, AirSupply, Meatloaf, Burton Cummings, among many others). A big fan of Wensdays from the moment he first heard her sing. Wagner produced and wrote or co-wrote all 13 tracks of Torch Rock.
Wensday's powerful take on “Only Women Bleed” draws fresh and renewed attention to its enduring theme of empowering women to overcome the cycle of domestic abuse. It joins three other emotionally compelling songs—“The Rise And Fall Of Love,” “After You” and “Arizona Man”—on a four track EP that Desert Dreams (led by music industry veterans Alex Cyrell and Suzy Michelson) is using as part of a unique incremental radio marketing approach to introducing Wensday's remarkable talents to music fans in North America.
Rather than pick a specific single themselves, Cyrell, Michelson and Wagner are eager to let programmers at Triple A and non-commercial AC stations (public radio, college, etc.) play any and all of the four songs before the label approaches mainstream AC stations. The full 13-song album (which includes two bonus tracks) will hit online outlets like Amazon and CD Baby on February 28, with regional brick and mortar stores following thereafter.
“After a long time trying to figure out what style I do best, I truly get to do it all on Torch Rock,” says Wensday. “No matter the vibe or tempo of the song, they all convey the most important thing that I'm a singer, and no matter my personal tastes and background, connecting emotionally with people is what I am all about. It's an honor to work with a producer who is legendary writer and musician, but I think of myself as something of an old soul, so it's a good match. All of the songs on Torch Rock,” are about love, relationships and female empowerment…basically about issues that are meaningful to me.
The first song they wrote together when Wensday moved to Phoenix was, appropriately enough, “Arizona Man,” which is not only geographically relevant but also a declarative statement about Wensday's ambition as a singer/songwriter. “It came from a totally different riff I wrote on the piano, and is about a relationship I got involved in shortly after arriving in Arizona. The question was, what's more important to me, a relationship or my career? The attitude of the song is female empowerment, like you want me but I'm free and independent, and this is the road I'm traveling on.”
Wensday learned jazz from her parents' extensive record collection and from her first voice teacher at age 13, so she gravitated early to the “torchy” part of Torch Rock. She later got into opera and punk rock and was heavily influenced by her friend Melissa, a goth singer/songwriter. She did some studio recordings while attending NYU, but then stopped singing for a few years when she moved to Miami and started working as a body piercer in South Beach. After a relationship that took her to Atlanta didn't pan out, she moved back to New England. One day she happened into a vintage store in Massachusetts, saw a gorgeous 1940s cocktail dress, thought about Billie Holiday and knew she had to get back to singing.
“I was very happy with my life in Providence,” she says. “I loved the balance of working with children during the day and then singing in nightclubs and restaurants at night. I was about to cut a jazz album when everything happened with Suzy and Alex.”
When Michelson and Cyrell came to Providence to check out Brown University for their daughter, they heard Wensday sing and offered her the chance to come to Phoenix to record a demo with their friend and colleague Wagner. The one song demo grew into a three and four song demo, which evolved into a production and management agreement with Desert Dreams, which is launching with Wensday as their flagship artist.
“The rest is in the process of making history,” Wensday says. “My dad has always been my #1 fan, and if I can make him happy by singing, I know I can make the world a better place with my music. It's never been about fame and money for me because those only follow when you do what you love. I just want people to like it and to understand where I am coming from. That's what this great journey is all about.”
